Re: N64 graphics

Maybe they should've just scrapped it depending on how much effort it takes to make. One aspect of N64 graphics doesn't hold much nostalgic value on its own. The 240p screen of the 3DS doesn't make me nostalgic either.

Re: N64 graphics

It looks more like a game from 2005 on low settings than like a N64 game to be honest.

Re: E3 2018

Overall I thougth it was pretty good. Microsoft showed a crazy amount of games. Barely any exclusives but that's just better for the consumer. Bethesda showed/announced some great stuff. At this point I consider trading my Switch for a PS4. I've waited years for a good Nintendo console and they had ...

Re: E3 2018

God, that Nintendo E3 sucked. I genuinely expected something from Playtonic. They didn't even show Metroid, Bayonetta or Pikmin.

It could be Yooka-Toolee.

Because ''tooka laylee'' has wordplay while ''yooka toolee'' just tries to mimick ''banjo tooie''. ''Yoo'' sounds like ''too'', you know.

Good idea. It could also be an Scottish coast with a layout similar to that of Treasure Trove Cove.

Best World

It surprised me how different people's opinions are. Let's settle this once and for all with a poll. You can select two worlds. My top 5 5 - casino A visual mess. Has nice levels but also a lot of filler. 4 - sw0mp Confusing and somewhat ugly (though that's the point). Has decent levels. 3 - ice Gre...

Re: Funding the Next Game

It's weird how few indie/kickstarter devs actually continue making games or try to grow.

Re: Funding the Next Game

Platinum Games had multiple games in the realm of Yooka Laylee while having no major hit. Wonderful 101 took 1.5 times the resources of the first Bayonetta which was a big project already. The main difference is that they didn't fund their own games. Turns out Playtonic multiplied in size and is wor...

Re: Playtonic's Next Move

They should first release a Shovel Knight/Undertale equivalent. Something simple yet universally praised. Then there will be more hype for a more ambitious project.

Re: E3 2018

I forgot how just a part of the team worked on the switch version while others were already developing the next game. Yooka Laylee had an E3 trailer just a year after the kickstarter ended. The trailer footage was really similar to the final product.

Lessons Playtonic shouldn't learn from Yooka Laylee

This topic is one for stubborn people. Of course Yooka Laylee was flawed but I've seen many complaints that didn't make sense to me or even worried me. The worst one was someone complaining about having to collect 100 pagies to beat the game. I hate how some modern games can be rushed through and th...

Re: How The Chameleon met the Bat

Yooka goes on a quest to rescue a princess from a mean guy with bats as minions. Turns out he treats the minions worse than the princess so Yooka ends up rescuing Laylee. The bad guy and the princess marry and end up in a suburban home with 3 children and a dog. Sure, if Playtonic can find a way to ...

Re: Funding the Next Game

According to VGchartz it sold 300k on Xbone and PS4 combined. I think if you add digital copies and Steam/Switch versions that's enough. Wonderful 101 (truly spectacular game) sold fewer copies and even that company keeps its head above water.

Re: List 'o Ideas

Some kind of collectathon/metroidvania hybrid where you unlock new areas by doing quests and unlocking new moves. Kinda like banjo tooie but expanding on the interconnectivity. Could either be Twooka Laylee or a new franchise.

Re: What other world themes would you like to see?

An entire level on top of a huge turtle. There are big mosquitoes but the turtle can't swat them because he's a turtle so you help him out. What about a farm level? That would give a number of areas to explore: the farmer's house, the barn, the chicken coop, the pig pen, the different paddocks, the ...

I'd like to see that that duck in a huge mech suit. I'd also like if they'd take a central problem/conflict and expand on it by showing how it negatively affects charecters and locations.

Re: Lessons Playtonic might learn from Yooka-Laylee...

Aside from the more obvious things like lack of polish I think levels should have more points of reference to add cohesion, memorability and ease of navigation

Nitpick: I think the characters are too detailed. They have some funny concepts but big expressive faces leave stronger impressions.
