Re: Switch Waiting Room - Friendly Conversations While We Wait

I've honestly pondered whether they ought to just try building the game again from scratch. It is true they basically have all of the assets they need, the level designs, and so forth. But I figure that it would be several months of guaranteed development (six+), whereas there is a chance that they...

Re: Radio silence

I work indie atm. Things are starting to make sense... If all you want to say is "George is atm doing our animation tree", fine, screencap the animation tree. Yes, that is exactly what is happening. If you want to show world 3 is coming along, you have to choose a good motive to show that...

Re: Radio silence

The developers take a screenshot of the work they are working on, while they are working on it to help show their status/progress. They are not spending hours setting up a scene and taking a bunch of screenshots like you would for promotional content. So no it doesn't cost any real time. The develo...

Re: Radio silence

As an aside, most developers don't love spending their office time to create some screenshots for the press guy instead of using it to do, you know, their job. Or rather, time developers spend doing screenshots is at least as much "wasted developer time" as it is "saved press guy tim...

Re: What the hell are you doing playtonic

Patience. The already released versions were Playtonic's guinea pigs, which they are now fixing. And any improvements they add to those versions are going to be standard in the Switch version from day one, so I'm quite happy to wait for them to fix up the other versions first and get all the proble...

Re: Radio silence

I dont think you need to offer up as much detail as the Camelot Unchained dev team. However it would be good twice a month to give a brief status report to backers. The project manager/studio head (Gavin Price) should know the high level status details of the team off the top of his head, so it wou...

Re: Radio silence

Plus, as we've seen in just the past year people in the public eye have to be careful what they say to the masses as words are twisted and soon enough they're gettig death threats.(NMS) I made a small sc2 custom game in college that became popular (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLVe8Psqvt8), brie...

Re: Radio silence

I'm just curious if any of the posters in this thread have experience in making video games, because I do not, but I would assume that it's incredibly time consuming. Don't you want the company your supporting to be hard at work doing exactly what they need to be doing instead of updating you that ...

Re: Beta64: Yooka-Laylee

That really sucked, a 90 minute video that could of been condensed down to 10 minutes as the other 80 minutes was stuff like "The camera angle in this cut scene was slightly different in the trailer than in the final game!". Who cares.

Re: Y-L ... disappointment

Should refund it on steam and buy it on a console, game is much better with controller and PC seems to have issues or something with various controllers.

Also judging by the way you type, is this you?:

Re: Kind of surprised about fans reaction.

The thing most people dont talk about, is that the guy who designed this game is not from Rare's Nintendo golden age. He was one of the designers from Microsoft Rare, and all he really did was make mediocre/average games. 1. Many key staff do work at Playtonic 2. YL design lead Gav Price worked at ...

Re: Kind of surprised about fans reaction.

There are a number of design issues with the game, among other things. The thing most people dont talk about, is that the guy who designed this game is not from Rare's Nintendo golden age. He was one of the designers from Microsoft Rare, and all he really did was make mediocre/average games. That be...

Re: Tooka-Laylee

Yooka Laylee is alot more like Banjo Tooie than Banjo Kazooie. Yooka and Tooie both have: Large levels lots of back tracking bosses lots of moves Banjo Kazooie does not have these things. I think the biggest problem with this game is that it is basically a remake of Banjo Tooie, not Banjo Kazooie w...

Re: The music was good, but not what I was expecting

Grants Music has always been moreso background music that blends into the level. I have always prefered David Wises music as it can stand on its own as music you would actually want to listen to. It adds more feeling into the game, which I think Yooka Laylee given its poor character and story develo...

Re: A list of Issues I Have with the game.

I got flying after completing most of the first and second world so I had it for world 3/4/5. It definitely makes things go alot faster in the swamp. Alot of the swamp is various islands in a sea of toxic water. I assume getting from island to island would be painful, without flying. But with flying...

Re: Why was the story so bland and uninteresting?

The story is based on Microsoft buying RARE and trying to make money instead of good games  Isn't it ? Microsoft for the most part did not make Rare do anything for the first several years, they allowed them to continue running themselves. They were assigned by Microsoft to make kinect gam...

Re: Why was the story so bland and uninteresting?

90s era platformers typically did not have deep or interesting stories, whereas games today do. So maybe they were trying to stay true to that. I personally think the game would of bennefiting from applying a modern approach to the story, like actually hiring a story writer to come up with something...
