Re: Playtonic Games announces Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair

Try watching them through a proxy server. There are lots of proxy web surfing sites. They will essentially let you spoof your IP as though you are somewhere else allowing you to bypass the Youtube restrictions.

Re: Playtonic Don't Want Impossible Lair Compared to DKC

I think that's a good policy on their part. It's really impossible to make sequels to 25 year old games, plus it's also a very limiting philosophy. If there are good gameplay mechanics in the old games they want to include, great. If there are new mechanics they have thought up, also great. Just foc...

Re: Yooka-Laylee: 64-Bit Tonic coming soon!

Did the PS4 version ever receive the filter? If not, is it "coming soon" or has it been scrapped?

Re: YL & The Impossible Lair - Please remember to make it challenging

Yes, agreed. The standard gameplay should be challenging enough to be compelling. Putting in extra gimmick modes and calling that the game's challenge is a cop out. And mind you, not EVERY level has to be ball busting, but there need to be some very tricky/demanding levels in the game, specially aft...

YL & The Impossible Lair - Please remember to make it challenging

Most of the great 2D platformers of the 8/16 bit era had quite a great deal of challenge to them. Look back on the Donkey Kong Country series for example, there were many levels that were quite demanding. All the widely successful 2D platformer throwbacks that have come out the past 4-5 years have o...

Re: Playtonic Games announces Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair

It looks very good actually, probably better than YL1 looked to be honest. The one thing I want to stress most to the Devs if they happen to read this IT NEEDS DIFFICULTY Many of the Donkey Kong Country games had very challenging levels. All these retro-style 2D platformers are only good if they cap...

Re: Yooka-Laylee: 64-Bit Tonic coming soon!

I'll say it, it's very disappointing and totally missed the point (and look) of the N64 era.

The distinguishing feature of the N64 era was low-polygon BLOCKINESS.

This filter looks nothing like a N64 game at all.

Maybe it's the best they could do but still, can't help to be disappointed.

Re: Lessons Playtonic might learn from Yooka-Laylee...

Yes, I agree that the flying was just too powerful of a move. Once you got the flying movie exploring or traversing the worlds became completely trivialized. Past games put better restrictions on flying to preserve the worlds having meaning in regards to exploring them and traversing them. In a 3D p...

You know what's a contributing thought instead of pointless complaining? He is contributing. You're the one that's not. You seem blindly dead set on dismissing any and all criticism of anything PTG as "demanding" or "complaining" You should be able a fan of a company without let...

Re: Banjo-Kazooie or Banjo-Tooie?

Banjo Kazooie is better for me. Tooie's worlds were too big and tedious often times. The stuff to do in them was great, but many of them were just so large and sprawling and spread out that traversing the world felt like a chore. Also with these big worlds a lot of it begins to look alike and blur t...

Re: Lessons Playtonic might learn from Yooka-Laylee...

YL is a pretty good game, it had potential to be great and subsequent games can be. Here are the lessons I would hope they would learn: 1. More worlds, smaller size per world. More worlds and variety is always a good thing. YL had the absolute minimum # of worlds you could get away with and have it ...

Re: Gloomy Gem Grotto

I also want to voice my extreme displeasure with this change. YL was a very, very easy game even before this change. Why take one of the very few semi-challenging areas in the game and effectively delete it? They could have just nerfed it a tiny bit (which I still would have been against) but they t...

Re: Update Impressions!

It's a video game. Losing/dying/failing is part of a video game. A game you can't lose is a game where winning is meaningless. I don't just want to mindlessly mash buttons and progress through the game. There's supposed to be parts that challenge you and that you have to do over and over, getting be...

Re: Update Impressions!

I was excited about the updates until hearing they nerfed things. Fixing bugs is great, quality of life improvements are great. However YL is a very easy game overall and there were like 2-3 remotely challenging things and they made them all easier? Must every single game be dumb downed and streamli...

Re: Zero Punctuation review for Yooka-Laylee

They put the flying move towards the "end" of the game for a reason, however with the expandable world concept it really isn't at the 'end' if you don't want it to be, you can get it decently early on if that' your goal. The flying is way too open ended and versatile. It does indeed trivia...

The music was good, but not what I was expecting

All the music was top notch, particularly the World 2 theme as you are in the Iceometric Palace. However in this day and age of modern gaming, video game music has sadly been sorta pushed to the background. As video games have become more about story, presentation, and immersion, music is used less ...

Re: Gloomy Gem Grotto

One of my favorite parts of the game. Not every single part of the game should be ridiculously easy. Having a challenging or frustrating part is good for the game. 100% completion should be something you earn.

Re: Yooka Laylee is Nostalgia Gone Wrong

YL is a good game that hipster critics are being too harsh on because its en vogue to poo-poo on "nostalgia"

There were some aspects of YL that fell flat, there's lots of room for improvement, however overall it's the best 3D platformer that has been made since Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Ideas for worlds

One of the major feedback items I see a lot, both on these forums and elsewhere, is simply that more worlds would have been better. I loved all 5 worlds and never thought they were too big or dull or anything like that, but I think 10 medium sized worlds would have been far more compelling than 5 gi...

Re: A list of Issues I Have with the game.

Flying really does trivialize the game. They give it to you at the end for a reason because once you get it, going back to the old levels is just too easy to do stuff. Level 5 is designed with flying in mind but the other levels were designed for you to be on the ground, so when you get flying and g...
