Re: Funding the Next Game

If we're going down that road, I imagine a sequel would do poorly on the other consoles because of how terribly received the game was on them. Plus, kids - a definite target audience - aren't privy to this development fiasco stuff. They'll go to the store, or go on the e-shop, or hear from some othe...

Re: YL Switch Speculation Thread

^^^ I like your analogy simply because I'm a father and that's been my life the last few months LOL. It's the reason babies are so cute: defense mechanism against all the crying. Anyway, as disappointed as I've been from how the Switch stuff has been going so far, there is NO DENYING how excited I a...

Re: Gloomy Gem Grotto

To be clear, I don't like challenge for the sake of challenge. I like FAIR challenge, where screwing up feels more like my fault, versus the circumstances I was merely put into. For example, there is a pagie at the end of the game that you must do a horrible death slide for with electric fences. It ...

Re: YL Switch Speculation Thread

I have to say, I wouldn't exactly mind a weekly log where Playtonic does tell us what is and isn't going on with the game. I mean, isn't Andy Robinson's whole job supposed to be communicating with us? I imagine he's got plenty of time to spare for this... just sit down for thirty minutes a week and ...

Re: YL Switch Speculation Thread

Just to play devil's advocate, might they have not been working on the switch version during a lot of this time? They said they've been waiting for a new unity release to fix a certain bug... that seems to imply that they stopped working on the switch release until that unity issue could be fixed. I...

Re: Gloomy Gem Grotto

All I know is that "users must demonstrate patience." -_- I can imagine the next update, we all jump in super excited to find out what it is... only to have him say "Exposition Loaded 99%. Users must demonstrate patience" hahahaha. As much as I want to give Playtonic the benefit ...

Re: YL Switch Speculation Thread

I won't deny the possibility that the game has needed some major rework to run on Switch solely because of the utter lack of news. With that said, they had the game RUNNING on Switch months ago as evidenced by screenshots. It is incredibly more likely to me that they simply spent almost none of that...

Re: Gloomy Gem Grotto

Did many people complain? Only two that I know of, and it just so happens they have a Youtube channel, so you better believe Playtonic changed that challenge. Other reviews may have referenced it, but I didn't listen to any of them: I knew I could trust Gamexplain, so they're the only ones I watched...

Re: Unique World Characters

I totally get the "They may not be the same people we remember" part. There were a few too many places where the game was self-aware, the adults jokes were a bit excessive, and some elements seemed to be thrown in just to appease nostalgia driven people like you and me (those awful Quackfi...

Re: YL Switch Speculation Thread

Yeah, at this point I highly doubt Yooka-Laylee is releasing this year for Switch. Sure, there is still a chance, but I think yesterday's Nintendo Direct is pretty condemning evidence. I heard Playtonic (apparently?) said all YL info would be coming directly from them, so it is possible they just do...

Re: Unique World Characters

Oh my gosh I love that! It reminds me of the "Bigafoots" in Hailfire Peaks with their giant toes. Moodymaze Marsh... I feel like we easily could have had a Mr. Vile nod here. Or maybe even a sickly-looking lizard character: I can imagine some fun dialogue between him and Yooka. Maybe a lar...

Re: Unique World Characters

You had me at "rich mole with a monocle" hahahaha! That sounds so utterly perfect for Capital Cashino. I appreciate Playtonic giving the corplets different looks in the different worlds, but it is true that they just needed way more variety, and not just new skins. Maybe Glitterglaze Glaci...

Unique World Characters

What would YOU have done? With how little news we seem to get on YL, I figured it would be fun to actually talk more about the game itself than how much we are starving for info. So, I think it might be fun to talk about our own ideas for world-specific characters Yooka Laylee could have used in eac...

Re: YL Switch Speculation Thread

I finally see why people stopped coming to this forum: we are given so little to talk about! This is why the place becomes a den of negativity. I have hardly been to the site in the last two or three weeks, and I've been perfectly fine. But coming here, waiting day in and day out for the hopes of ne...

Re: Funding the Next Game

How many companies have gone back to KS for their next game? I'm actually curious. This exactly. This is what spurred the question to begin with. Given that I'm no professional game developer, I have no idea what it takes to go from kickstarter to full-fledged company. I'm also curious on the units...

Funding the Next Game

So I've been wondering this for a while, and with the lack of news lately I figured it might be a good way to distract us for a bit. How will Playtonic fund their next game? I ask because I know lots of people (whether they are majority or simply very loud minority, I like to believe the latter) did...

Re: Cancelled?

I didn't realize there was a lot of other social media negativity going on for Playtonic right now. Personally, I hope they keep development to a single platform next time (fingers crossed for Switch), and maybe expand their team to an extra member or two to specifically post on the forums and keep ...

Re: Playtonic: What we Want to Hear About

I totally agree, but unfortunately fandom tends to lose patience and understanding fast. It just kind of goes with the business. I think Playtonic understands this for the most part, like most developers would. But it is nice to have reminders like "They quit their jobs for this." It is a ...

Re: Cancelled?

I think you're starting to get a bit worked up there, Shan. ;) I like to think of this as "cabin fever," only with a Yooka Laylee skin put over it. People start to go mad when they can't leave their cabin in a long enough time, just like people seem to be going mad not experiencing YL! I f...

Re: Playtonic: What we Want to Hear About

To me that doesn't sound like they're planning on cancelling the Switch version, it sounds like them saying when they're happy with everything (ie testing phase is done, marketing is planned, if they know whether they'll be able to release physical copies or not), that they'll let us know. I'm glad...
