Re: North American Localization

I'm fine with the British spelling. It adds to the game's personality and charm.

Re: Toybox feedback & discussion thread (SPOILERS)

I've played through the toybox a dozen times and loving it so far. I can't wait for more! The land controls feel amazing, the writing is hilarious, and the music sounds great. Here are some concerns I have about the game so far: I think the change from the tanky swimming controls of Banjo Kazooie/To...

Nanirourou wrote:Can you add a third option for "no opinion?" I'm not for or against ledge grabbing. I think a platformer can be fun with or without it. If there's no ledge grab, it's likely intentional and we're supposed to navigate other ways.

Sure thing, added.

Re: Ledge grabbing?

that's 2 times I've brought up Gex on this board and I am very sorry for it Even when Yooka being a chameleon was just fan speculation, I was revisiting old N64 platformers like Gex and Chameleon Twist to consider the gameplay possibilities. I think Yooka using his tongue to grab ledges would be re...

Ledge grabbing?

What do you think of the lack of ledge grabbing in the toybox? Do you think the game is better off without it? Should the player only be able to ledge grab very particular parts of the environment? I'm a little conflicted because on one hand, the inclusion of ledge grabbing would create more opportu...

Re: Let's Talk Swimming

So I noticed a lot of people bring up Ratchet & Clank's swimming controls, which were serviceable if I remember correctly... However, think about all the things you actually DID underwater in those games. Not much... Now, in Banjo-Tooie, and even BK to an extent, there were a great many things ...

Re: Toybox Box-Maze Camera Angles

Room 3's camera for me. It had a nice balance of information being shown to the player and it reminded me of King's Sandybutt's Maze from Gobi's Valley in Banjo Kazooie.

Re: Let's Talk Swimming

I also remember the swimming controls in Banjo Kazooie having you turn about as sharp and fast as a semi truck It's been a while since I played it, but didn't Banjo-Kazooie allow you to press the R button for sharp turns while swimming? That's true, it did. Turning is still much easier with the Rat...

Re: Let's Talk Swimming

Currently the swimming is almost identical to the controls of ratchet and clank games, just not as polished. I was trying to think of a platformer that executed the current swimming controls in Yooka Laylee well, and Natendo gave a great example with Ratchet and Clank. Swimming in that game is prec...

Re: Let's Talk Swimming

The swimming controls felt noticeably clunky to me. I don't think using the X and A buttons (Xbox 360 controller) to rise and sink in the water is a bad idea, but it did feel really imprecise and unresponsive. It took a while for Yooka to readjust to swim straight after I pressed and released one of...

Re: OMG! The Toybox was AWESOME!

I agree, I think the game shows a lot of promise so far. I lol'd several times throughout my playthrough, the writing is just as funny as I had hoped. The game feels great to play, the only time the controls felt particularly clunky for me was during the swimming parts.

Re: The most ludicrous call-to-action you can think of!

Yooka and Laylee have a concert/convention to be at but don't have a ride. Yooka lost the pages of his novel/homework/work papers and has to traverse multiple worlds to reclaim them. Yooka and Laylee live in a magical book world and a sadistic writer is tearing out pages of their world and writing i...

Re: Game XPlain Playtonic Interview

There were two things in particular I found interesting in this interview: 17:03-17:46 Gavin mentioned how Yooka's tongue ability might be utilized to absorb enemies (kind of like Kirby) and change the properties of existing moves. I'm excited to see how this will expand upon the gameplay! 26:42-27:...

Re: Beta 64 Playtonic Games Interview

I loved what the recharging magic meter and rental system in Link Between Worlds did to make the player feel free and unencumbered. It meant not disrupting the puzzle solving by taking breaks to farm for more bombs and arrows. Ugh I really need to play A Link Between Worlds already! The magic meter...

Re: Beta 64 Playtonic Games Interview

While I'll miss the variety of the separate collectibles, I think it's a good idea. What would you guys think if they did something like A Link Between Worlds, where you have a kind of "magic" meter that refills over time, but you also have this single collectible that refills your "...

Re: Factory World?

Not a fan of the muted colors of factory levels. Grunty Industries was the only level in Banjo Tooie I didn't like because of how dull it looked and how disorienting the level design was. That said, machinery does offer some great platforming opportunities. Maybe a factory level with lots of color ...

Re: DLC discussion

Playtonic Games are handling DLC exactly as they should, I'll be looking forward to seeing how they choose to expand the game further! Hopefully this new stretch goal will give any people still on the fence incentive to back the Kickstarter!
