Re: Toybox feedback & discussion thread (SPOILERS)

Here is my feedback: ⋅ Underwater movements not responsive enough ⋅ No first person view to look around ⋅ The camera often gets stuck against level geometry ⋅ Some moves feel stiff. Just one example: the ground pound (LT when in the air) should give player con...

Re: GoG release info

When I asked them about GOG, this is the answer I got: At the moment I don’t know if and when we can release a DRM-free version. So I'm glad that they've changed their stance a bit. It's progress. :D I'd take the game on GOG instead of Steam, as I always do if I have the choice. I encourage more peo...

Re: Colors in Yooka-Laylee!

I saw this picture (http://i.imgur.com/G7fakbM.jpg) today and instantly thought of Yooka-Laylee on the left and all the recent AAA FPS games on the right. The game industry has been colorblind for too many years. AAA FPS like the FarCry games? Or Overwatch? Or Bioshock Infinite? Or the Borderland g...

Re: Yooka-Laylee: Everything We Know (So Far)

It sounds like DRM is simply used to stop data miners/hackers and piracy, which only sounds like a good thing to me. Can someone clarify what DRM is and why a DRM-free version would be good? DRM can pretty much always be circumvented by pirates (except in online multiplayer games), it always end up...

Re: Yooka-Laylee: Everything We Know (So Far)

Got this answer when I asked if the game will also be sold through GOG:

At the moment I don’t know if and when we can release a DRM-free version.

Just thought that some people would like to know.

Re: Yooka Laylee Appreciation Thread

The single thing that I appreciate the most so far is that they finally added an orchestral soundtrack stretch goal. It's not the most important thing to me, gameplay is, but I can't comment too much about gameplay from what I've seen yet.

Re: Orchestral Track

Here's an example of a classical tune that I think is very catchy to illustrate what Austin_4e said (Dvorak's Salavonic Dances): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fN4z8HjSCI8 But I don't think that this is what people complain about, it is catchy but it still sounds like an orchestra, it is very much ...

Re: Movement mechanics / physics / camera

He was sarcastic. Some people on the forum seem to think that's because it's in a very early stage, we shouldn't discuss, criticize, or give feedback because everything will obviously be improved upon a lot in the coming months. I disagree with those people by the way, keep discussing. I don't...

Except that it doesn't? :? What classical music does it sound like exactly?

Re: Orchestral Track

People are always reticent to change. Games always had strong technical limitations for soundtracks, and now that we have the opportunity to change and improve on that, there's resistance because of what people are used to. There's a lot of examples of that, for instance the widespread resistance to...

Re: Orchestral Track

The "midi sound" is one of the things that should be left in the 90s. Live is always more beautiful than samples. What makes it sound bad is not positioning the microphones properly. Too far away and it gets washed out. The microphones need to close to the instruments so we get that carto...

It would be fun if when you enable the N64 mode, you'd get old school midi soundtrack as well.

Re: [Stretch Goals] Update: 1.2Million Stretch Goal funded!

What they usually do is record the orchestral part separate then have the non-orchestral instruments done in a different session. They mix them together so you get that close sound you want layered over the lush orchestral sound. Thanks for the explanation. Sounds reasonable! You're a musician your...

For those unsure of orchestration, check this out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6ZNlcF4cj8 Is this an official soundtrack from Banjo-Kazooie Nuts and Bolts? I haven't played it so I don't really know. But I have to say that I don't really like it that much. As I was saying just before, I'm expe...

I don't think physical console releases can happen if they don't have a publisher, so unfortunately, I wouldn't hold your breath for that for now ): Also...I don't know how to feel about this orchestrated soundtrack stretch goal! Couldn't hope for better. This is what I've been wanting for since the beginning! Happy it's finally here. :D Does the disclaimer mean that there won't be further stretch goals? Well, even if there aren't I'd be happy with what we already have. But some stuff like online for the multiplayer and othe...

Re: World expansion only optional ??

Each world or expansion can have its own little story... The pirate in Treasure Cove Trove, the Bears in Freezeezy Peak or Gobi the Camel had nothing to do with the overall story of the game, yet those kind of things are awesome.
