Re: Playtonic Don't Want Impossible Lair Compared to DKC

Comparisons are inevitable.

It's up to the product to show its differences.

Of all the things I NEVER thought possible.

Wonder why Microsoft is so keen to buddy up to Nintendo of late...

Re: honestly im not sure about this new game.

I think it's a sensible move: playing to the strengths of the developers' past successes but doing a 2D platformer.

It'll help stop them becoming typecast as the "3D collectathon" developer, if nothing else.
The more strings to Playtonic's bow, the better.

Re: Playtonic Games announces Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair

I think this is a brilliant move - a 2D platformer to play on their DK Country-honed strengths and show that they're not just a 3D collectathon studio.

Hope it takes off.

It'll be because YL came out too early for that particular montage.

Nope.

Hope he goes on from strength to strength.

Re: Playtonic's Next Game... Soon? (Speculation)

Intriguing.

This is probably a bit forward of me to ask, but how lucrative has YL proven to be?
Has it made Playtonic enough money for a huge, sprawling adventure as their second game?

How has Sea of Thieves done commercially, do we know? I'm having difficulty finding sales data.

Re: "A Rare Retrospective" by The Nostalgic Gamer

Really interesting- I often wondered what happened regarding the split from Nintendo. I still can’t understand why Nintendo let their best developer go, but the big N often makes stupid decisions (much as I love them!). It wasn't Nintendo's decision to spend two years hunting for a buyer for Rare. ...

Re: "A Rare Retrospective" by The Nostalgic Gamer

From the Xbox E3 presentation, Rare is focussing solely upon Sea of Thieves DLC (battle toads is being developed by someone else).

Well, it's E3 now.

As far as I can tell, Playtonic isn't showing anything off this year. Maybe they're having a long rest?

Re: Playtonic's Next Move

I don't reckon we'll hear a peep now until E3 or later, to give the company a chance to sort any last minute bits and pieces from Y-L and so they can have something to show for their next project.

I'm getting it on the Switch to smirk at the irony:
Sony's former poster boy is now on Nintendo.

Re: Lessons Playtonic might learn from Yooka-Laylee...

One of the things I loved about the Banjo-Kazooie/Tooie games was the variety of challenges you had to solve to get a Jiggy. I loved the challenges that took a lot of thinking to solve, such as having to get the batteries to the power terminals in Grunty Industries. There were fun mini-game styled ...

Re: Playtonic's Next Move

By the way: When I think about it, I wish them to be done with Yooka soon and move on to the next project. They should still develop DLC, that I agree with, but they should save their funds and not do the orchestral score, it doesn't make too much sense to patch this back in. It would be fine, yes,...
