Re: Funding the Next Game

Indie games like YL don’t need to sell a lot to make a profit. Hellblade, for example, broke even at only 500,000K copies, which would be considered low by AAA standards. I asked Andy Robinson how well it was doing for Playtonic a while back, and this was his response: https://www.twitter.com/AndyP...

Re: Lessons Playtonic might learn from Yooka-Laylee...

Yep ShanPen pretty much nailed what went wrong with Yooka. Playtonic didn't explore the level themes enough (or I wouldn't say even barely), they didn't attach the pagies to little stories that would happen within the world. (Sounds like a missed opportunity when you consider that almost everything ...

Is it bad that I feel that these characters / character-designs are more lively than the ones in Yooka-Laylee? It looks like this guy really dug into the level themes when coming up with characters.

Re: Playtonic's Next Move

By the way: When I think about it, I wish them to be done with Yooka soon and move on to the next project. They should still develop DLC, that I agree with, but they should save their funds and not do the orchestral score, it doesn't make too much sense to patch this back in. It would be fine, yes, ...

Re: Playtonic's Next Move

You’re probably right. That might be a good way to avoid most comparisons and start fresh. Maybe it’s just the Banjo fan in me that wants a critically acclaimed big 3D platformer right away. It’ll certainly bring some advantages if they do it later, too. Like having a bigger company and more capaci...

Re: Bugs & Glitches - Switch Edition

During dialogue from afar (while doing a challenge), the player can’t jump, which is somethings rather deadly. (Encountered this in world 3 when doing a challenge for the talking pumpkin).

Re: Bugs & Glitches - Switch Edition

I played Yooka-Laylee for the first time today! :D I don't know if this is a glitch or if something just went wrong with my Switch (overheated?) but when I was in Tribalstack Tropics battling the minions to rescue the explorer skeleton lady, a black screen with an error message appeared saying some...

Re: Yooka-Laylee on Switch - first impressions (by first-timers!)

Yeah checkpoints would've definitely helped. In many regards more polish would've been great. What I personally would wish for is way more sounds / effects in the game. For example, when choosing between Yes and No, the game should highlight your choice & play a sound once you did your choice. A...

Re: Playtonic's Next Move

Hard to say, I’d argue that they should immediately start developing a sequel to Yooka, with all the experience and criticism they earned with this. I think they can make a great sequel if they rely on their strengths and streamline a lot of things - while being a bit more confident with what they’...

Oh yeah, I remember that Team17 guy on the Steam forums. He certainly did his best to make his company and Playtonic look like douchebags.

Aside from what was written above, they would consider doing a Donkey Kong Country game if Nintendo approached them. What else... the HUD of Yooka-Laylee is in its respective full resolutions (720p & 1080p).

Re: Playtonic's Next Move

Personaly I think they should do something very different to Yooka Laylee in genre and gameplay, and original, to show that they can. Hard to say, I’d argue that they should immediately start developing a sequel to Yooka, with all the experience and criticism they earned with this. I think they can...

Interesting that it's still online to begin with. But how interesting was the Wii shop anyway? Isn't everyone using other... ways to get software on these systems?

Re: DLC information question

Yes me too. They should showcase that they understood the criticism of the main game worlds and apply it there. Just make a smaller world with a more iconic / comprehensive layout and fill it with funny silly tasks (and maybe more characters that are exclusive to this world, that really is a big dow...

It's ironic, but the troll in this thread basically answered everything for me. It really IS just a bunch of abused twelve-year old boys that need to let some steam off on the internet somehow. Come here man: we'll give you the hug you need. We were teenagers once too, we get how hard it is. It's e...

Re: Yooka-Laylee on Switch - first impressions (by first-timers!)

Yeah Rextro's games weren't all that terrible, I would even say I had fun while playing them (and a second time to beat the highscore). The levels do feel empty in a way, although there's some beautiful atmosphere in many of them. The graphics and the music are really stunning if you think that this...

Re: Bugs & Glitches - Switch Edition

(Edit: Oh btw, I'm not trying to be negative or anything. This is just informational. The game is completely playable on the Switch.) Agree. There are some minor glitches that should be reported. Boss in world 3: During that phase in the fight where you have to hit the single big eye over the platf...

Re: Bugs & Glitches - Switch Edition

You're sure? On certain spots, the framerate was terrible when the game released on the other consoles. It feels like Playtonic put the necessary effort in the Switch version that really lacked on XBOX / PS.
