I think they do have what it takes, especially if they had the money and technical support that a big company like Microsoft could provide.
Because in all the Yooka-Laylee Developer Commentary videos where fans asked them stuff like “Why didn’t you do...?” Or “Why wasn’t ... like it was in Banjo-Kazooie?”, their answer was always “We wanted to, but we ran out of time/budget”.
Which actually made me quite sad because imagine how much better their first game could have been if they had more resources? Generic, souless games like the millionth Call Of Duty get huge resources devoted to them, but these Playtonic guys who have an actual passion for making games have to do so with a small (in game terms) budget.
It must have been hard for them to want to do so much more but not be able to (especially for the guys who came from RARE in its glory days who were used to working at a studio with much bigger budgets). It really makes me appreciate what they did achieve with such a small budget.
