Capital Ca$hino!

Postby Yavga » Tue Dec 13, 2016 12:03 pm

New gameplay and a new stage confirmed! Capital Cashino
It looks very promising and entertaining, be sure to watch the video down below!

Link to Video

Stage looks awesome! I see a lot of Platforming challenges and physic puzzles. Can't wait to play this stage! Have you seen that trailer? Microtransactions for pagies confirmed :) PG 10+ rating is somewhat baffling though. Simulated gambling? Oh my...

Let's break it down:

Seen attractions:
- Pachinko
- Slots
- Mini Golf
- Roulette
- Disco

WTF moments:
- Why are there egyptian walls with hyroglyphs in a casino? 0:32

Moves:
I saw 2 new moves. one seems an idle the other seems like a charge up move!

This world is really cool!

+ Those enemies are decks of cards with poker chips for arms.

+ It's like Grunty Industries and Witchy World with the feeling that you're now in hostile territory. The stealthy sections in the "staff-only" areas look awesome.

+ The pinball sections they mentioned in the Kickstarter are in this world! This level is a really organic way of implementing some of the more far-out ideas like that.

+ There are variations of the ladybug enemies, seen in the first shot of the trailer.

I wonder whether this is the expanded version or not- either way, I think this is already my favorite level.

Looks really awesome! I notice a few mechanics/props seem recycled (the pyramid, having a slide, rolling a large ball) but it doesn't look like it'll feel too same-y.

And I believe I saw two new moves as well. One idle, and an enhanced rolling move, I agree.

Would have liked this bit of news to be gaining the most traction instead of the WiiU snafu...

Anyway, this world looks interesting. I've honestly never been a fan of real-world industrialized, man-made settings. I've always loved environmentally inspired levels. However, this one looks very challenging and full of fun. I also love how Capital B advertises areas throughout. Very reminiscent of Witchyworld for sure!

I'll probably end up watching this trailer several more times to take it all in. But I am very pleased with everything we've seen thus far!

I'm loving the polish on this world!
I normally dislike industrial/human-like worlds just as Pokemaniac Dan said, but this one might be an exception. I also loved Mugshot's Vegas Casino world in Sly Cooper 2, so I'm looking forward to the creative gameplay such a world allows.

The shot of the "mini-golfing" and especially the staff-only stealth sections look awesome :D

I am rather fond of this stunning stage! Could the Sonic Adventure's action stage Casinopolis have served as a source of inspiration for it?

The "Staff Only" areas look fantastic and novel, super agree there. Also ample opportunities to hide funny easter eggs there.

I was literally looking back at the casino levels in Sonic Adventure/Heroes last night. I love this theme; I'm getting Witchy World vibes.

I actually was thinking more of Casino Delfino from Super Mario Sunshine, but it's also similar to a Sonic casino stage, too.

Looks like it'll be fun

Two other things:

1. I hope exchanging coins for pagies is only for some of the pagies, and that you still earn some through exploration and missions and whatnot. Having to buy all the pagies might feel strange...

2. Any ideas what the "head-spinning" transformation might be?

First thing I thought of was the hotel area in Mario Sunshine.

Love that the casino floor has its own rules for obtaining pagies, while nightlife and staff only areas allow for very different sorts of adventures. This will feel very different from Tribalstack Tropics. Just super!

I was under the impression that all the worlds in Yooka-Laylee take place within giant books (Grand Tomes, i believe) which is why it makes sense that you can use pagies to expand them. All of these books are about to be converted into pure profit by Capital B himself.

With that in mind, it seems weird that there would be a book about Capital B's own casino, especially considering that this book is also about to be destroyed for the sake of profit. Why would Capital B destroy his own book? In the trailer, Capital B also talks about the casino as if it's a real place in that world.

It's possible that this world will be unique, and that it will NOT be accessed through one of the Grand Tomes. If that's the case, will it still be expandable with pagies, even though the world isn't a book?

Could this be a plot-hole, or something that will be explained during the game? :geek: :?:

Only just got around to watching the new trailer, and I love the idea of this level! I work as a live events technician and a casino is one of the venues I work in often (it has a whole heap of different sized function rooms for events and conferences), so I can't wait to see the back of house "staff only" areas in the game!

It's probably just making fun of the tacky themed areas that some casinos have. Like the first cruise ship I went on had Egyptian themeing for areas such as the main stage/theatre, and the casino gaming floor area.

I have two thoughts about this.
1). It might be the Yooka-Laylee spin on the "Grunty's Furnace Fun" equivalent, ie. Capital B has prepared a final game area for Yooka Laylee where the odds are rigged against them. As a casino fits perfectly in a corporate greed setting.
2). It might be a real place in Hivory Towers where Capital B takes his business buddies to entertain them and chortle about their brilliant plans such as destroying Quack Corp. Maybe Yooka and Laylee sneak in to this area.

I'm a little surprise about this world Capital Ca$hino.

I love Tribalstack Tropics and Glitterglaze Glacier, but this casino seems to be a little emppty and unorganized.. I prefered Banjo-Land...

There is something wrong in this level you are not agree with me ? Or it's the graphics...

One of the kickstarter stretch goals was to have a "pre-final boss Quiz Show challenge" that is separate from the regular worlds, so this is definitely not that.

If it's a real place, it wouldn't make sense to have the entrance be one of the books... but as far as we know, all the regular worlds will be inside the Grand Tomes.

We will see :D

Maybe this level is an example of a new profit-making book -- a book already converted beyond repair.

I understand your concern, but I'm sure it will work out fine. :)

No, I think I understand what you are getting at. It feels unfinished and somewhat of a mess. Things don't seem to blend that well and feels chaotic and somewhat cheap.

That could be possibly intentional or it's just we're looking at footage from yet another early alpha. I'd argue this is a problem that occurs when you want to give people "something" to show but remove a bunch of assets and features.

Agreed, it will be interesting to see how this fits into the story of the game. The "ghost writers" are supposed to be the original authors of the worlds ... Captial Cashino, as we see here, is clearly the work of Captial B! Yet the presence of quills makes me think it's still a book.

What I've been wondering: is this a Hurst, Wilson, or Rose world?
(I think Rose)
