Looks fun. Would have preferred different playable characters over different coloured yookalaylees but no big deal.
Will these be playable online? I guess not but would be cool.
Also, rextro sounds like a higher pitched Gruntilda.

I noticed that their wasn't a switch logo lined up with the others... hmmm

Also this isn't really the update I wanted. Still waiting on how to change to switch version and waiting for the Switch versions release date.

That looks like so much fun! I laughed at the, "If not have any friends like Rextro" part. I doubt any of my friends would play the multiplayer with me lol.

Don't know how a multiplayer reveal trailer turned into more switch whining...

But to keep this topic on track, I enjoyed what I saw. Interesting to see the game themes and what they could be based off of. Here's a quick breakdown:

1. Minecart race seems clearly based off of Tribalstack Tropics.
2. Quill collecting seems clearly based off of Glitterglaze Glacier
3. Some sort of race with casino chips and dice throughout the track seems obviously Capital Cashino
4. The bridge one where you aim and beat the enemies seems similar to Tribalstack Tropics, but also harkens back to the original teaser vid way back during the kickstarter days.
5. Some industrial looking game with moving pieces that can squish you? Seems there is poison gunk beneath you. Possible Hivory Towers? Or maybe some industrial world?
6. Another industrial looking game that has transport tiles with pipes and poison gunk beneath you. Looks very sewer-like. Another Hivory Tower? Sewer/Swamp world? Something else?
7. Not shown.
8. Not shown.

We're only 3 months away!

I doubt I'll be able to get anyone to play either so it's a good thing we can play alone, even if it's just to sample it.

Wow after reading the update there is a coop mode for the main adventure. Where a second player can help collect stuff.

They also say there's a much bigger update "coming soon"

This looks amazing. I wasn't expecting something so polished (and in 3D) for the mini-games!

I don't know how I feel about the mention of a crowdfunded Rextro game, however. It's not what I expected for Playtonic's future...

That was just a joke I think. Like Grunty saying she's going to make her own game.
I wouldn't have thought their second game would be crowdfunded too...

I wondered if it was a joke, but I ended up taking it literally; perhaps as a way to get people laughing/speculating until the official announcement that a real Rextro game will actually appear on Kickstarter.

But yeah, if true, it's not what I expected in terms of Playtonic's future funding. I want them to be able to stand on their own, as any successful business can.

(I also secretly hope they do a kart racer for their next game).

Me too i want to buy their future games not fund them.

I'd be happy for them to make a kart racer next but I'm also looking forward to seeing what ideas for starring roles they have for their other characters.
I wonder who the face of their kart racer would be (if any)

Aw, poor Rextro says he doesn't have any friends to play local multiplayer with.

"Arcade games featured in final Yooka-Laylee game, but much better! Rextro crowdfund own project next time."
This is probalbly more a reference to that Yooka-Laylee was crowdfunded. The idea is that Rextro's a game dev with a company entitled Amazing Rextro's Software Entertainment. Rather than existing within the inferior Yooka-Laylee, he'll just crowdfund his own game next time, naturally.

Love the RC Pro-Am style racing game. The shooting game appears like Wild Guns. Interesting we play as Minions in the survival minigame (that looks like something out of MARIO party). Only seeing the spin attack in the games where you play as Y-L ... one looks like a brawler, the other a Bomber Man grid but I'm not entirely sold on the core gameplay.

Overall looks fun. I was hoping for something a little more visually distinguished from the main game, considering they're presented as "arcade titles" by Rextro ...but maybe would take too many resources to accomplish. They sort of resemble Banjo Tooies mini games, which is neat.

Amazing Rextro's Software Entertainment? Are you kidding me?

Anyhow, Switch news should hopefully be coming soon. Per email:

Rextro's Multiplayer Modes Revealed!
Posted by Playtonic Games (Creator)
Keep hold of your spare change: Rextro’s awesome arcade games are coming to Yooka-Laylee!

.

Playable in both single-player mode or with up to four players in local multiplayer, these 8 unique competitive games are designed to channel the heyday of couch multiplayer, when ‘lag’ meant forgetting what time of day it was when your mates eventually switched off and stumbled home.

There are eight different games – accompanied by retro-tastic tunes from the one and only Steve Burke (Kameo, Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts) – including arena brawler Glaciators, old-school racer Kartos Karting and the friendship-destroying Jobstacle Course. Check out more screenshots over on the Yooka-Laylee game page.

As well as the local multiplayer arcade games, Yooka-Laylee offers a second player the opportunity to co-star in the main Yooka-Laylee adventure. Taking control of the Bee Team, a second player can grab quills, collect and store butterflies, stop traps and more!

REMINDER: Ahead of the option to switch platforms, we encourage all Kickstarter backers to make sure they have access to their Backer Kit account and contact Backer Kit support to solve any issues.

We’re currently working on a much larger update with information on, among other things, how Kickstarter backers will be able to change platforms and upgrade to physical versions. Thanks for your patience while we get the details up to scratch.
