It means the game is finished.

Yeah, finished as in "no more bug fixing", let alone main development time. Now they're preparing distribution and marketing efforts, probably (well, and the other little thing many of us seem to be waiting for).

Not really the case anymore. All "going gold" means is that it has passed cert and is ready to be printed to a disc. For a long time that meant no more development, but nowadays that tends to mean they are working on a day one/early days patch to finish up some stuff and polish up the game a bit more.

This is a pretty good read regarding day one patches and cert stuff, for those interested: http://ramiismail.com/2016/08/patch-the-process/

Oh, so now that the first half of the game is done, they can start making the second half with the DLC ideas they generated over the past year.
Woaaaah, it finally came out! :o

I think you might have gotten Playtonic confused with Bioware.

Grats to Playtonic, though. This wait is gonna be killer.

It marks an important event in the history of Playtonic Games. So yes, that is something worth mentioning.

Of course those 21 months go by fast, but 1,5 month till Switch release goes as fast as a snake with salt on its back. :')

I meant the term. NEVER heard that term used. Wonder why...
