New video from Capital Casino... Bugs remain?

It's a nice video! The casino seems very busy, also some spoilers about a new transformation and stuff.

I'm kinda worried... They still haven't changed the basic attack with a more satisfying sound effect, some parts still feel very empty like. Some sound effects are way too loud.

Seeing as this is gameplay from the game gone gold there doesn't seem to be a chance anymore for them to address these concerns... Or am I mistaken?

Game will be awesome though!

I had the same concerns as you while watching the gameplay. My main concern is the tail spin move, which I'll admit looks a little neater, but also still looks incredibly cheap. I noticed that whoever was playing tried to switch it up every once in a while and use some other attacks like the ground pound and the reptile roll burnout (?), but they could never manage to make it work and always resorted to the overly powerful tail spin.

Why bother using any other attacking moves when the tail spin can knock out five enemies at once with a single hit and then be used spammed again a half second later?

Besides that, the world looks beautiful, the music is fun, and that minecart section looked very enjoyable and challenging. Overall it looks to be a very fun and nostalgic game, still can't wait to get my hands on it despite the concerns I mentioned above.

Let me start with saying that it looks pretty good overall!

But in some cases it looks like it is unpolished:
- Hitboxes seem to be off;
- Spin Attack impact is (still) not satisfactory;
- The world/character proportions seem to be off;
- Big world, little content (somewhat empty);
- The world feels really generic;
- Too few graphical details;
- Some sounds seem to be too loud.
(+ A couple of other minor things.)

So, I really hope this content is not from the 'golden edition', but rather from a late beta version.
If this is from de release version, then a day 1 patch seems to be a "must".

Now I'm really concerned.

* Camera is still very low most of the time and the visual angle is awkward for a 3d platform game
* Character movements are still really fast and, in addition with the bad camera, make the game very confusing and chaotic
* Animations seems to be still very rudimentary, something that make the game feels not very smooth
* The "Spin Attack" and defeating enemies still feels, look and sound strange. The colour sparks that appears when you defeat an enemy are really unnecessary and awful
* The Level seems a little uninspired in general
* Still no "black cinematic bars" at the top and bottom of the screen when an event occurs (ala Banjo-Kazzoie)
* Still no distinctive sound when a ground switch is activated
* The sound of collecting Quills is still very cheap and unsatisfactory

The worst part of all this is that the game is already Gold. I just hope that this could be an alpha version of the game..

I agree that some things simply feel 'off', but a lot of things feel right too. It looks fun and I'm excited to explore all the worlds and secrets.

I can't make a final judgement until I have played the game, but I can say that it looks like a rich, well-planned and imaginative universe with fantastic potential for expanding into other games, as was Playtonic's original intention.

We need to remember that, despite being made up of industry veterans, this is Playtonic's first ever game. There is bound to be a learning curve, even for the professionals.*

*That's not to say that I don't think Yooka-Laylee is going to be a great game in its own right.

I'm honestly not sure how I feel about this video. The game play and exploration aspect seems good, but this world may be my least favorite. It just seems way too big with way too little going on. It seems vastly empty. Thought there would be more enemies around throughout, but it seems they are just confined to specific areas. I'm also not too fond of the transformation (but not griping to heavily on that) and feel the animation when you transform is really undone. Just poof and the image changes. Also still upset that Dr. Puzz doesn't have a dwelling and she's just randomly out in the open.

Overall, though, I'm still excited for the game. There's always one world that irks me and this one may be it. Hoping this is the last bit of the game we see since I'd like the rest to be a pleasant surprise.

Skimmed the video to see what the ruckus is all about.

I really like aspects of the visual style: obviously the baddies, the ugly carpet design, all the lights, fountain, the overall tackiness (clearly intentional), the room with the broken security cameras

Theres no denying that the overall reaction to this world is mixed. I think it's way exaggeratedly negative ... its like people are looking for an excuse to compare this to Mighty No 9, or "ugly unity games." Yet, I agree something is "off" -- the proportions are exaggerated. The slot machine part takes me out of it a bit, it's so tiny compared to even the floor boards beneath. In a way the giant central area feels like pyramid level in scope, skinned with casino textures/assets, all placed in an enormous room.

Really, though I highly doubt I'll be complaining while exploring this level. The gameplay looks pretty fun

That is something that I have noticed too. It just seems weird she is standing there with no context. She seems like astronaut so they could have make some kind of space ship for her at least.

That applies to Trowzer too, to some degree. He's just standing there doing nothing. Then you go somewhere else and he's there too, seemingly teleported himself to a new location. The moles in BK and BT had a network of molehills so you could assume that they were traveling underground. But Trowzer just teleports (or are there more of him?). It's weird.

Small details like those make me a little disappointed.

Poor workmanship if you ask me.
These small things make or break a game, if you ask me.
Mumbo's Skull, Bottles' Molehills & Jamjars' Silos were iconic in BK & BT!

This is something that bugged me ever since we saw the first hints of that. The lack of dwellings in some form really damages the world building in this game, while they did a great job in BK & BT... What a pity.

A lot of us spoke out about this earlier in the year and I guess I thought playtonic would have taken this on board. Obviously not. This also disappoints me. I don't like NPCs hanging around in the open world.

I know we've talked about that particular thing at length but I still feel like the "dwellings" don't add much and only existed to push stuff like Mumbo into a separately loaded area.

Don't really see how it helps world building that a character would have a permanent residence in like 6 different places, especially in Tooie where it seemed like there were just multiple Mumbos. I actually like the way Puzz is just leaning against a wall.

I wouldn't have been opposed to them doing stuff like giving Trowzer a cart or Dr. Puzz some more portable looking lab stuff, but I like their approach regardless.

It's a bit tough to admit, but the meagreness of creative and imaginative designs in this game is starting to dawn on me. It might also be a relevant cause as to why so many things are feeling generic and empty. They may be a team of around thirty people, but quantity doesn't really matter if there is a shortage of inspiration in the crew. Another important factor is to have directive supervisors for the different aspects of the development, who have a strong vision of which direction to shape things into. Of course, I don't claim to know how the developers are directing this project. But it seems somewhat evident to me that the generic feel to parts of the game may tie to inconsistencies within the creative direction of the development team.

We don't know how the levels will feel once we play them. And we probably don't know all NPC characters and their (small) story arcs that come with them. I'm willing to wait a bit and see, even / especially since we noticed aspects we don't like at all. The whole package is what counts, after all.
