Cancelled?

Postby Exaskryz » Sat Aug 05, 2017 7:47 pm

Has Switch version finally been cancelled? No news has come out in months regarding releasing on the Switch, but priority seems to still be on making DLC for the other systems.
Aiaiaiiii, we're 8 months past the deadline for the game, and still no word on it coming out.

The Switch version is still being worked on. Just yesterday they posted this image of it on their Twitter. https://twitter.com/PlaytonicGames/stat ... 3694291969 (Spoiler warning: The level displayed on the Switch screen in the image is from a later part of the game.)

You would indeed think it is cancelled, by the lack of communication from PTG's side. :')

Another Kickstarter update, another No Date Announcement for Switch. So when does v1.0 of Yooka Laylee launch on Switch, and when does v1.1 with the DLC update launch on Switch, because I want my free DLC upgrade?

Or, if they start out with v1.1 or whatever is most recent on other platforms, are we still getting free DLC or is Playtonic reneging on that?

How did you even get "Playtonic might renege on free DLC" just because the last update didn't specify a Switch release date? That is a zero logical sense conclusion to make.

They will give us more information when they have certain information to give, so it would be nice if people would stop with the dramatic claims such as "Switch cancelled!", "No free DLC!", "Playtonic are slacking off!" etc. I don't know if you like stressing yourself out with unneeded drama because that's just your personality, or if you think that by making a big fuss you will somehow coerce Playtonic into hurrying up, but either way it's immature and unhelpful.

I think you're starting to get a bit worked up there, Shan. ;)

I like to think of this as "cabin fever," only with a Yooka Laylee skin put over it. People start to go mad when they can't leave their cabin in a long enough time, just like people seem to be going mad not experiencing YL! I feel for you guys: I'm incredibly lucky to have gotten to play already.

Realistically - and Shan basically said this already in another thread - they have been spending most of their console-development resources/team just to get the patch out and in working order on PS4 and Xbox. Keep in mind that Playtonic didn't actually handle development of those versions, so the incredible delay is understandable. Either they decided to do the patch themselves for the consoles, or they were too busy communicating with another studio. Regardless, there's not much room for working on something like the Switch version - which should hopefully be relatively simple for them to pull off - when you've got two other consoles waiting for what is in some ways a "playability patch."

At the same time, development of DLC and the extra bits we are waiting for seem to be progressing smoothly according to Twitter. They likely use different team members in developing the new content versus the console updates. While it stings that they didn't give an update this time around, I'm willing to be it is because these console patches were much more ridiculous to work on than first anticipated, and they just wanted to announce ASAP that it was finally done. I'm honestly expecting another update before the next month is up. So hang in there!

True, because there are a few specific people on these boards who are negative all the time and seem to enjoy making drama, which makes the place miserable, and then people wonder why the boards are always dead. There is a difference between people being disappointed and worried coming to the boards to voice and discuss those concerns rationally, and the people who just want to make trouble and inflict their negativity on everyone else because misery loves company.

Drama? We're stating facts (at least, I am).
It's absurd that we still don't have any info regarding the Switch version of YL (4(!!) months after the initial release).
Even the people who were defending PTG with their lives on these forums, a couple of months ago, gave up...
They're all gone!
Be realistic/fair and admit that their approach for their next game should be TOTALLY different. ;)

+ I can name more things that went wrong...

I have no disagreement with that as they haven't exactly been forthcoming with the information and I think they really need to get someone in next time to specialise in PR.

The drama I'm talking about is when people start extrapolating wild claims from the little information actually given and then being straight out disrespectful because they're angry - "STILL no Switch release date?!?!?! I bet Playtonic are just sitting in their office laughing at us before announcing they'll cancel the Switch version, and then they'll track down all their backers and kill us because they hate us so much, I wish I never backed this project at all and I hope the Playtonic team all get chronic arthritis in their hands so they can never program again because I never want to see another game by them ever, where's my refund??!" - slight exaggeration, but that's how it feels in here sometimes with the way people get worked up.

Wowww.. Yes, you are exaggerating! ;P
I didn't read THAT kind of stuff and sometimes people get a little to emotional (incl. me), but PTG should understand that (I think).
I followed every bit of news since the 'Mingy Jongo' Twitter account days, till now.
I backed them for (quite) a lot of money + I played all the best Rare games out there.
Calling me a fan is an understatement. :P
But good to read that you agree on my 'approach' point, but you are right some people exaggerate way too much. :)

Maybe it's because I also read all the comments people post to them on their Kickstarter page, Facebook posts, and some stuff on Twitter where people can be really horrible, and then I come here where it's supposed to be the biggest fans of all but still see people being so negative, that it's started to get to me and it might seem worse than it really is.

You're a massive fan who has been disappointed, but deep down you still really care (naww ;) ) because if you didn't care you wouldn't get emotional. I can understand that and I said something similar in the "What we want to know" thread, so I hope Playtonic can understand that and think of that point of view when they read the angry and upset things fans write, but at the same time I'd hope the fans could also show that understanding to the Playtonic team and try to think about how discouraging it would be for them to read constant negative accusations or wild speculations when they are working hard on the Switch version and they took a risk to start their company to make a game fans have been waiting for since that Nuts & Bolts abomination crushed our dreams of a Banjo-Threeie.

I didn't realize there was a lot of other social media negativity going on for Playtonic right now.

Personally, I hope they keep development to a single platform next time (fingers crossed for Switch), and maybe expand their team to an extra member or two to specifically post on the forums and keep the community alive.
