"PENNY"

Postby ShanPen » Fri Jun 15, 2018 5:54 pm

Anyone know what the deal is with the name "Penny" showing up all throughout the game?

Did I miss something in the storyline about a character called "Penny"? Or are you all as baffled about it as I am? Anyone have any theories?

It's graffitied very faintly on the purple beam just above Yooka and Laylee's heads, and there is a heart with an arrow through it right above the name too. It's hard to see in the screen shot, I might post a closer up screen shot if I remember tonight when I get home from work.

Here's the same image altered so the graffiti stands out more.

A closer up screen shot of the "Penny" graffiti.

(And the same image with colours edited to make the word clearer).

Maybe one of the developers is in love with a girl named Penny.

Hm? I have no idea...

Maybe it's symbolic of a "lucky penny", being Playtonic's first game and all.

Probably just a small easter egg that has little meaning aside from an inside joke.

Pennsylvania and New York are close to each other... PENnsylvania x NY equals PENNY????

What kind of secret do we have laying over here?

:geek:

Even PENNsYlvania first 5 letters without the S (which means SONY obviously) equals PENNY.

I did try asking Playtonic about who this "Penny" is on Twitter, but they just liked the post and didn't give any information about it.

So I tried asking Steve Mayles as he sometimes replies to questions about games and characters, but he didn't reply. :(

This reaction certainly makes it more interesting. Won't be the last we see of Penny, I reckon.

Hey, Daley, reckon you could try and find out about this 'Penny' for us? Consider it a Community Manager challenge!

Bonus quests:

1. Why is 'Evie' and 'Erin' graffiti'd onto the ship?

2. Why is 'G50' on the ship's door?

I'm fully expecting some sort of reference to the real world, maybe somebody related to a developer, but it'd be nice to have an official answer! :D

I come bearing gifts, fresh from the Playtonic office.

Penny is the daughter of Dave Rose. She was a newborn when her name was added into the game.

Evie and Erin are the daughters of Chris Woods! They requested their names be added into the game and they were very happy and excited when they were!

G50 was the office number for the previous Playtonic "HQ".

Mysteries solved! 8-)

Thanks a lot for solving those mysteries! :D

How nice of those fathers to do that for their daughters. I wonder if Evie and Erin had to search for their names in the game or if they get shown where their names were, because it would be so fun searching through a game to find your hidden name if you had no idea where it was!

If you feel like solving another mystery for us ;) - could you tell us the relevance of the date that's found both inside and just outside the space level?
