Income as Indie developers?

Postby guzaarish » Tue Jan 01, 2019 5:31 pm

I was wondering, since typically when developers make games it takes them years. Since people who actually code and make the game needs to be paid so they "live and buy food". How do Indie developers cope with money until the game is released? Are you paid bye your publisher (in your case Team 17?) or are you basicly working for free next 2 years?

Thanks for any kind of answer and Yooka-Layle inspired me to develop my game which I had in my mind quite a lot of time.

Hey there!

My knowledge on the business side of things for any studio is limited, but I can fill you in on what I have learned from personal experience.

If developing a game that has been funded, the source of money tends to be:

Grants (look into creative industry grants, there are loads in the UK)

I'd recommend doing thorough research into all of your options before considering setting up a studio or working full-time on a game. It's not as easy as it may seem!
