Finding Playtonic's new candidates, (Updated 18th of June)

Postby Yavga » Sat Jun 06, 2015 3:00 pm

Today I did some research into Rareware, because I have a lot of time on my hands and I'm unable to leave my place right now so might as well do something fun.

Below is the former team of banjo Kazooie. There are 3 candidates who can possibly get into Playtonic.
Later I will dig into the team from other games.

Banjo Kazooie

Chief of Ideas
Gregg Mayles
Rare / Microsoft Studios

Other Ideas
George Andreas
Creative director at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.

Chief Keyboard Tapper
Chris Sutherland
Playtonic

Deputy Keyboard Tappers
Morten Brodersen
Technical Software Architect at PrintSoft

Paul Machacek
Rare, MGS, Rare Ltd

Graham Smith
Left Rare in January 2003, unknown

Keyboard Tappers
Kieran Connell
Technical Director SOHO

Rhys Lewis
http://www.squareheadstudios.co.uk/

Other Keyboard Tapping
Mark Wilson Senior Programmer at Rare Ltd

Chief Scribbler
Steve Mayles
Playtonic

Ed Bryan
Head of Development, Nosy Crow

Scene Crayoner
Steven Hurst
Playtonic

More Sketching
John Nash
Passed away

Other Doodling
Chris Peil
Seems Unemployed currently

Big Noise Maker
Grant Kirkhope
Freelancer, currently helps composing for Playtonic

Graham Smith
left Rare in 2013, I'm unable to find anything else on this person.

Rhys Lewis
Has a small indie game design company, it seems like it's a one man company currently!
quote: Building on my experience making the rocket-barrel and mine-cart for DKCR
Seems like they could use him :)
edit: Just mailed him to ask a few questions, couldn't resist.
Confirmed to not join Playtonic

Chris Peil
According to LinkedIn he left rare and is currently unemployed (or did not specify his current work)

Furthermore my eyes are looking at some other people right now: Ryan Stevenson, Gregg Mayles and Louise Ridgeway. None seem likely currently... Nor would they state so right now when asked as they are working at Rare currently. It's purely based on activity through LinkedIn :P

edit: Ed Bryan just caught my attention, I'll keep an eye on him.

edit2: Edward Bryan confirmed as guest artist!

Yeah... I suppose.

I have some kind of formatting planned, thought it would look most easy on the eyes in 3 posts ^^
else it will become such a wall of text.

One correction you might want to make, Yavga. Grant's not actually part of the Playtonic team, he works as a freelance composer, and is lending his talent to the Playtonic team.

So what did Graham Smith and Chris Peil do for B-K exactly?
Let us know if the other guy replies to your email. If he worked on the Minecart and rocket of dkcr get him on board I say.

Does he not work for retro?

New section added! 4 possible candidates added.

Message from Rhys Lewis:

Hi Joost,

Thanks for reaching out.

I worked with Chris and the 2 Steve’s on the original Banjo-Kazooie and so I know them pretty well. They are a very talented group and I’m really happy to see them get off to such an awesome start with their kickstarter, I’m sure they are going to deliver some very memorable experiences over the coming years.

With that said, Squarehead Studios is my sole focus right now.

Best Wishes,

Rhys

Chris Seavor:

@conkerhimself: @Yavgas Maybe they'll join me ....... ;)

Bit stalkerish, but interesting. I predict we'll only get a couple more ex-Rare staff and the rest will be new faces. Who knows.

(Almost all of my favourite ex-Rare staff are already in Playtonic, so I don't mind the inevitable new faces joining).

I'm actual wondering what the Playtonic-guys are thinking of us.
Because, yeah they can read and will reading this.

I would laugh hard, if we get mentioned in anyway

We'll never know... they're secretive as they should be :P

Perhaps they add in a german speaking purple pony named Retnert?

Good thing you edited that personal part out of your post Yavga. Posting personal information on a public forum that trolls can, and will use against you isn't very wise.

If that happened, I feel honored and scream like...

I can't even describe it. Unbelievable and will never happen.
