Switch Idea List

Well, it looks like the Switch version will take a bit longer but if Playtonic takes advantage of all the system's unique features it'll hopefully be worth it! While we're all waiting anyone got any creative and out-of-the-box ideas of how Playtonic Games could utilize features such as HD Rumble, th...

Re: Looks like switch is confirmed!

I know they're under enough pressure as it with canceling one version and bringing development to another console so late in the development cycle, but I still wonder if Switch will get a physical version sometime down the road. Perhaps, given their history together, Nintendo will throw Playtonic a ...

Re: Share Your Ideas for Animations! Idle, rolling, talking, and more!

They could do an animation everytime you collect a Pagie like in BK, but just don't lock the movement. If the player want to see the animation each time, don't move and watch the animation until it finishes. If they don't want to watch the full animation, moving the stick cancels it. There's probab...

Re: Please make the blob shadow optional

Personally, I'm a fan of Super Mario Galaxy 2's Mario shadow. Here's a refresher. A shadow that's always in the same spot below the character, like a blob shadow, but it also reflects character movement. It's not just a blob. Allows for platforming accuracy and still looks decent. It's not realisti...

Re: Share Your Ideas for Animations! Idle, rolling, talking, and more!

Should the 3D models move their mouths as they talk or is just the animated 2D talking heads good enough? Please, no! :o I think the animated 2D talking heads are definitely good enough! I've never seen a game where (in my opinion, anyway) the 3D model mouth moving doesn't look weird or creepy, esp...

Share Your Ideas for Animations! Idle, rolling, talking, and more!

If anyone has ever played Conker's Bad Fur Day then they know about all of the expressions and animations Conker has for his various interactions with the game world. Even back when the game was Twelve Tales: Conker 64, the developers wanted Conker to dynamically react to his environment. It brought...

Re: North American Localization

After a couple Professor Layton games Nintendo said "screw it" and just gave everyone the British English translation for the later titles. It makes sense because the games take place in England anyway. The same thing happened with Xenoblade Chronicles. Nintendo of America wasn't going to ...

Re: Toybox Experience: Should There Be An Ability To Grab Objects?

One of the things the team behind Conker set out to do was give Conker animations for just about everything. It really brought the game to life and was one of the things Bad Fur Day did that set it apart from other 3D platformers at the time such as Banjo. If there's one thing I want Playtonic to bo...

Re: Let's Talk Swimming

Guys, I've found evidence that points to this new form of swimming being an experiment by Playtonic to test whether or not fans would like it compared to more traditional 3D swimming controls. First of all, Playtonic is listening specifically to feedback about the swimming mechanic as evidenced by A...

Re: Toybox Box-Maze Camera Angles

Is it just me or did the top-down view make it feel like you were moving much faster? It literally felt like I was zipping around the room. It was so fun. I liked both the top-down view and the isometric view for close quarter areas. The behind-the-back view felt constricting but that intense feelin...

Re: Toybox feedback & discussion thread (SPOILERS)

I like how Inept was strategically placed so that you cannot see him in one spot while he is across from you in the other spot. I tried looking down at the ToyBox start area while I was with Inept inside the camera angles section, but the wall obscured my view of where Inept starts at. It gives it t...

Re: Toybox feedback & discussion thread (SPOILERS)

Swimming: I also had some trouble getting used to the swimming. I wonder if they could add an option to let you swim like in the N64 titles, unless there are going to be additional aquatic moves in the game that rely on this new control scheme. Pushing: The pushing physics need to be fixed so that Y...

Re: Nintendo eShop Selects Release Possible?

If this happened I would probably buy a physical disc copy of Yooka-Laylee and never open it (thus ensuring its future value). I would already have my promised download version but this would give me something to add to my collection and cherish. Yes, I would be willing to pay for Yooka-Laylee a sec...

Re: Toybox release date!

Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Sunday is the least likely because timezones causing some countries to be almost a day ahead of others meaning that it'll already be August for parts of the world. Saturday is plausible but I recall hearing that Playtonic Games doesn't typically work...

Re: Toybox release date!

https://twitter.com/Team17Ltd/status/757515723942035456 Team17 tweeted saying it won't be here today. Tomorrow then? I didn't expect 'coming days' to be three weeks. The wait for this 30 minute demo is killing me. :x That was me they replied too. I saw this and thought that they were teasing someth...

Re: List 'o Ideas

Just thinking to myself -- I'd like to see a collectible that changes location. Something you cannot just Google and cheat your way to find. I imagine Playtonic could achieve this by selecting hundreds of places it could be, but making each individual game select one spawn location at random. Maybe...

Re: Toybox release date!

More easy said than done. I don't see how they could realise that. If the Toybox is an offline experience (which it will be for reasons obvious) there will be pirates. Arrrg-xactly! I have no doubts that someone will pull a a Captain Blackeye and pirate the demos, no matter how protection is involv...

Re: Toybox release date!

I bet that the ToyBoxes (presumably both the regular AND the ToyBox+) are all finished up and Playtonic is currently working on getting their method of distribution ready. The demos are a gift to those backers who chipped in just a little extra so they're probably working hard to ensure that the dem...
