No offense, OP, but "think of the children" has rarely ever been a good reason to change anything

Re: Toybox feedback & discussion thread (SPOILERS)

Didn't previous Toybox press-releases say there was supposed to be a really cool secret WITHIN the demo that WAS NOT dependent on/requiring the game's release? So why then is the big reveal a hint about a special location within the game when it's released ? It could have been The room with dif...

Re: Toybox feedback & discussion thread (SPOILERS)

Hinting: [..] The other idea we had was that if the player has only a few quills left to find in the level, they can visit a "Cheato like" character to assist them in marking out the quills that have alluded them without turning to an out-of-game guide. This could be a late game reward af...

Re: Less Hope For Yooka Laylee?

For every failure like Unsung Story, Yogventures, Clang, Mighty No. 9, there are excellent games that were created with Kickstarter such as Wasteland 2, Pillars of Eternity, Shovel Knight, Hyper Light Drifter, etc. The good far outweighs the bad, but the projects that failed are always getting more...

Re: The plot of Yooka-Laylee as an allegory...?

Remember Gex: Enter the Gecko? I've been waiting my whole life for somebody to ask me that question. I actually... Well I played Gex 64: Enter the Gecko like last weekend. And no, it isn't good, I still couldn't tell you anything about the story aside from the instruction manual for the first game ...

Re: Less Hope For Yooka Laylee?

Yeah, but what's been promised for Yooka-Laylee is open to interpretation. What is it now, at least 5 levels, a 'buddy-duo platforming collectathon', so-and-so-many knickknacks, etc. Not a lot of specifics for the overall quality of the product. A couple of things the game certainly does have going f...

Re: The plot of Yooka-Laylee as an allegory...?

I agree that from the very brief clips we've seen, the game looks just like a more polished Banjo-Kazooie game, which is great. I am concerned that this very specific, very meta plot puts an awkward, clunky constraint on the universe Yooka and Laylee live in, just because the developers are (rightfu...

Re: The plot of Yooka-Laylee as an allegory...?

It hasn't been explicitly discussed b.c. a lot of fans are still groaning that Playtonic would rather "stick it to the man" with a weirdly meta and overly-grandiose premise than come up with a better plot. It's not just you, everybody knows the story is a dig at corporate takeovers (etc) l...

The aesthetic of Nuts-and-Bolts was the only part of that game I liked, so all good to me!

Re: What are the quintessential elements of a RARE game?

There was an ominous but humorous tone in Banjo-Kazooie, and we knew Banjo was trying to save his sister from a witch--we still know nothing about YL's plot and I don't expect that it will be quite as dark. A bit about the plot from the Kickstarter Update 36 (in case you missed it): Yooka and Layle...

Re: Less Hope For Yooka Laylee?

What do you think? Should gamers be cautious of Yooka Laylee, because of how MN9 turned out? Consumers should ALWAYS be cautious of business, ESPECIALLY when they are asking for donations up-front! That's the primary reason everyone is so pissed with Kickstarter projects like MN9: They begged for a...

Re: What are the quintessential elements of a RARE game?

The collectibles, the ease of access to the game (pick up and play) no complicated unnessesairy mechanics. And last but not least the controls! Which were fantastic. All in all it's a very polished experience to the n'th degree. I admit that I didn't mind hunting those notes so much when I was stil...

Re: Will there be new or classic games for the arcade games?

I wouldn't mind if they scrapped the arcade thing altogether and dumped those resources back into the rest of the game, honestly. Prefer it, even. I didn't care about those arcade games in Jet Force Gemini. I assume you play the games once in the main game to earn a Pagie, and then they're unlocked ...

What are the quintessential elements of a RARE game?

In all these press releases, right up to the very first Kickstarter splash page for Yooka-Laylee, there's been particular emphasis on such prosaic gameplay elements as "collectibles", "arcade games", and "explore at your own pace". What troubles me a bit is, having play...

Re: POLL: Best hot sauce?

I love the smokey flavor in this [generic] ground Chipotle pepper spice I have. I think Tabasco is more of a "tangy" than "sour" taste, but all tongues are different. I've been eating pan-grilled, de-seeded, hot yellow peppers w/ Clasico seasoning almost every meal for a month no...

Re: Arcade Machine games: what do YOU want to see?

I really, really DON'T want to see ANY arcade games within Yooka-Yalee. I can only see it being a distraction for the development team to assemble comperably mediocre sideshows within the game. I really can't think of a single arcade game I wanted to dump my time into between Banjo-Tooie, DK64, Jet ...

Re: So, about "Playtonics" and the 4th Wall...

It was charming and funny in BK because it was obvious when they were making fun of the player or games in general, but not so often or explicitly. It was like The Simpsons, or Futurama, when an element of the real world gets lampooned so perfectly that you laugh out loud and the moment is gone like...

Re: The idea was shot down before, But I'm going to go ahead and push it again. Amiibos for Yooka-Laylee.

I think it is in the best interest of this company--for which all backers should consider themselves board members--for development to focus as little as possible on gimmicks, especially gimmicks whose only purpose is to sit on hawkers' shelves and increase in value via artificial exclusivity. Amiib...
