Re: Wishes For Twooka Laylee (Non official name)

I agree with a lot of the improvements suggested here, but there's one thing I would like to add. Characters that are likely to appear next game, like Trowzer or Dr. Puzz, should get expanded roles, and their relationships with Yooka, Laylee, and other characters should be more developed. However, I...

Re: High Refresh rate monitor issues

60 fps is currently the standard in the animation tools that Playtonic uses (Autodesk Maya, for example). It may be that the Unity Engine is throttling the framerate of Yooka and Laylee's animations to 60 fps, as to prevent animation errors as you're spinning the camera about. As you spin the camera...

Re: Let's Talk Swimming

The swimming controls are unconventional compared to most 3D platformers I have played, but they have some advantages compared to the "aim character and swim" approach. For one, by mapping horizontal/lateral movement to the joystick and vertical movement to buttons, it's possible to introd...

Re: Toybox feedback & discussion thread (SPOILERS)

Got to try the Toybox, spent 2 hours total, which bodes well for the full game. With that said here some observations I made during the demo. ⋅ The Reptile Roll has no idle animation while standing still. This will probably be fixed, but I would like some more animations overall, i.e. land...

Yooka Laylee Short

Ugh, these people are spoiling my expectations. Hopefully, the voice actors and the writers for this animation can try and talk with Playtonic to contribute in some official advertisements or something.

Re: Why I'm afraid that Yooka-Laylee is becoming more like Donkey Kong 64 than Banjo-Kazooie (and hope it won't be)

The primary concern here regards the arcade machines. This comes straight out of Donkey Kong 64 and adds to the out of world mini-games that I believe defeats the work that they put into making beautiful and immersive worlds. I am also worried about the mine cart sections. Again, this comes straigh...

Re: Villain of Yooka-Laylee?

Concerning the design of the main villain, does anyone else notice a resemblance between the current Yooka-Laylee art style and the art style of recent Donkey Kong Country games? I suspect that whatever villain we get would fit right in alongside the Tikis and the Snowmads.

Re: No blob shadows? 3D platforming needs them.

This discussion originally belonged to another thread, which made it number three in our collection of blob-shadow-threads. They should just keep discussing it here, if they want to. I'm fine with that. Alright then. I'm a bit wary of off-topic arguments, as I'm currently dealing with one at the mo...

Please keep the threads free from irrelevant discussion. Move your argument to a new thread, or use the PM service. It's there for a reason.

Re: PC Version With VR HMD Support?

From what I've seen people are enjoying the "tacked on" VR support for older games. That's all well and good, but I'm not one of those people. Why should I spend money on an Oculus Rift, if I'll simply use it to play games several centimeters from my eyes? For games that employ the first-...

Re: PC Version With VR HMD Support?

Recent Video of Lucky's Tale Gameplay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yH_7ZcfPGvg Notice what happens when Lucky first leaves the house. He signals the player directly by pointing in the direction to progress in the level. Every time that Lucky is left in idle, he focuses on the player. Then, when ...

Re: PC Version With VR HMD Support?

Yes, but how would camera controls work, in that case, and how does that affect the gameplay? In a 3D platformer, it is essential that the camera remains stable so that jumps can be well-planned and precise. With the inclusion of a device like the Oculus Rift, the game changes significantly. How doe...

From the reddit AMA thread (http://forums.playtonicgames.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4101): 2 questions from me, sorry to make life difficult Do you have any other characters planned out so far that you're ready to reveal? Also do you have any concept ideas planned for the main villain(s) on what ki...

Re: Villain of Yooka-Laylee?

It's unwise to throw specific plot/character suggestions at developers since they can't use them. The most they can legally do is adjust to praise and criticism. Any specific idea is one less idea they can use without potential legal conflict. I think you've misunderstood the purpose of this topic....
