Re: Toybox feedback & discussion thread (SPOILERS)

See, I'm fine with the rolling as it is. It is the equivalent of the Tallon Trot from BK. I just wish you stopped on a dime and didn't have so much momentum. That would be the death of the game's longevity. Challenging, momentum-based movement options, in any game, keep the skill ceiling high and t...

Re: Toybox feedback & discussion thread (SPOILERS)

Finally got around to testing out the Toybox! It's great fun and the game will obviously be awesome, even if the final game works exactly like the Toybox. It can always be better though, so here are my observations from a game design perspective: - Ground Pound allows too much movement at the start ...

Final Boss

One of the many things Rare were famous for in the N64 days was the epic-as-hell final battles. This is definitely something that should return in full force with this game! Let's talk about some of the things we want to see. Some points I can think of: 1: The battle needs to test everything you've ...

Re: What in the world are "Pagies"?

Like I said in another thread about this, I think it's indeed literal pages we are dealing with. Golden pagies, like jiggies.

Each level could be a chapter in a book, and you can either add more pages to an existing chapter, or open a new one.

Re: Expandable worlds

Sounds awesome. I can imagine the world will take place inside a book or something like that, and new pages can be added to existing "chapters" or be used to open a new chapter.

Re: End-game Quiz/Twists?

There definitely should be some kind of "twist" - at the very least a continuation of the tradition of having the final boss happen after the credits!

But of course, we don't want to know before the game comes out, otherwise it wouldn't be a twist!

Canary Mary.

If they sneak in one character from BK you can bet it'll be her though. Which would be amazing, of course, so consider my point facetious.

Re: Gruntilda's Lair equivalent?

Watching today's presentation now and indeed they confirm a hub world in the vein of Grunty's Lair! Great news for fans of this thread, in other words.

Re: Thoughts on an Open World?

Entirely open world? Definitely not, it would make it very hard for the developers to create good level design. But this style of game has always been open world within each level, and I'm pretty sure it will still be like that.

Re: What's the perfect balance of collectables?

Yeah, as others have said BK already perfected this. In fact, I'd love to see the arcade-like "note score" system return - much of BK's challenge and longevity stemmed from that mechanic, since you actually had to master the gameplay to get all the notes - you couldn't just do blind suicid...

Gruntilda's Lair equivalent?

Do we all agree that we want this? An interesting hub world that connects the various levels and is gradually unlocked as you obtain more moves or collectibles. It's one of the most fondly remembered aspects of the old Rare games for me! Everyone loves the dangling carrot of seeing paths you can't r...
