Re: Yooka Laylee for NX?

Just a heads up all the Eurogamer NX leak stuff seems to suggest that backwards compatibility with the Wii-U isn't gonna happen. Also I'm fairly certain it has been strongly suggested that the latest versions of Unity already support the NX, for what it's worth.

Re: Let's Talk Swimming

Definitely don't mind the swimming controls now that I'm used to them. They really do allow for a certain level of precision. Still every decision has its pros and cons and there's definitely a loss of that sense of full 360 degree movement. In my mind the "gold standard" is Mario Galaxy'...

Re: Hat in Time doesn't feel as nice as the Toybox

I haven't played it and didn't back it, but that was always the impression I got just looking at how it moves and how it handles the camera. Don't get me wrong, I think for a lot of first time developers working with not very much of a budget they're doing a great job and it is super impressive, and...

Re: Let's Talk Swimming

I don't mind the swimming mechanics now, but I'd really like the option to swim faster by tapping A or something. That would just make swimming a lot more interesting than just holding the stick up and waiting. And as far as music goes... the underwater music MUST be a remixed version of the level ...

Re: Hopes For An Upcoming Donkey Kong 3D Game

Hopefully Yooka-Laylee will have a huge impact and revive collectathon games. If Retro made a 3D Donkey Kong, I hope that they would stick to the formula that DK64 created. They could reduce collectables, but still have a certain amount in each world. And I hope there would be a hub world like DK I...

Re: Hopes For An Upcoming Donkey Kong 3D Game

I would hope they'd stick with Retro developing, I'd love to see what those guys do with a 3D platformer. I'd hope the collectibles were toned down from DK64, the worlds weren't so big and empty, and that it had more focused gameplay instead of doing a billion things. Just getting rid of the music p...

Re: That one Rare title you hate?

Sort of in that camp is Conker's Bad Fur Day, which is firmly in "if I was currently 12 maybe this would be funny" (also don't think it is a game that feels great to play). You're certainly not the first to say that. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/ss_conkerlive_x Ha, interesting! Fun t...

Re: Visual clarity for rolling uphill

On the other hand, I remember an incline that was much greater than a blue one that I was able to simply walk on. I would like to believe that slopes would naturally appear to be far too slanted or have a certain type of surface if you can only traverse them with the Reptile Roll. keep in mind it i...

Re: Yooka-Laylee Toybox Feedback

I actually really like that Laylee's on Yooka's head and visible all the time. Makes them both feel equally important, and they still seem just as inseparable as Banjo and Kazooie did, to me.

Re: Unannounced Toybox update?

the water jet was there for me from the beginning, and Windows 10 just got a pretty big update. Since the problem was with Windows 10 and Unity, maybe whatever was in that OS update happened to fix it as well.

Re: Share Your Ideas for Animations! Idle, rolling, talking, and more!

I like the dance a lot buuuut I also liked not being stopped at all in Banjo Tooie. I agree if something like that's there it shouldn't be for every pagie. I always wonder why people dislike animations for major events (jiggy) that stop movement, is it just because of speedrunning? Edit: I do agree...

Re: That one Rare title you hate?

Well I mean "hate" is a strong word, but... Despite very much being interested in Yooka-Laylee, loving the Banjo games, and growing up with an N64, I'm not huge on the nostalgia angle. It certainly exists for me and the Banjo games, but I think it happens to line up where it is a game I ha...

Re: Fix the camera

Right now it catches on some stuff it shouldn't and isn't always in the ideal place when you jump, but "unplayable" is a bit of a stretch I think. Based on the feedback (and based on them all being real good at what they do) I'm sure a lot of time will be spent between now and release twea...

Re: Share Your Ideas for Animations! Idle, rolling, talking, and more!

Not directly related but I do think this is worth saying somewhere. I don't think the suggestions or feedback need to (or should) stop (and I've taken part plenty) but I do think it is helpful to remember that Yooka-Laylee, skilled as the team making it is, is a game being made for the fraction of t...

Re: Toybox Box-Maze Camera Angles

I'm for some rotation in certain instances but I also have no issues with a fixed camera in others. It really depends on the context for a lot of that stuff but I was fine with the isometric view as it was in the toybox.

Re: Ledge grabbing?

The main sort of argument I could see for ledge grabbing would be that it kind of adds another layer of the characters interacting with the world in a believable way, which helps with their goal of modernizing the 3D platformer. Looking at other games you see a lot of stuff being done as far as stre...

Re: Let's Talk Swimming

Guys, I've found evidence that points to this new form of swimming being an experiment by Playtonic to test whether or not fans would like it compared to more traditional 3D swimming controls. First of all, Playtonic is listening specifically to feedback about the swimming mechanic as evidenced by ...

Re: Please make the jump shadow optional

I get how stuff like that could be an option, but if they listen to all the "they should give us the option" talk on the boards we'll need a spreadsheet and a couple free hours just to configure the game. The controls were good enough to where I felt ok platforming blob shadow or no, but i...
