Re: Shovel Knight in Yooka-Laylee

You tell me where Shoved Knight says he hails from a different universe. He says a different game. Do you know what other games are planned to be part of the Playtonic Universe? Other playtonic games. This game should have a focus on world building. But now, it's just relegating itself to the Indie...

Re: More Indie characters: Yea or Nay?

Don't actively want any but I can't imagine having a reaction any more extreme than "ok." if you don't like the character making a cameo. But at least people acting like this is for some reason a disaster and the end of the world are good for a laugh or two?

Re: Eurogamer writer teases "cool announcement" for tomorrow

Exactly my thought. The role is most probably just minor anyway. Then again it IS a bit strange that they include him anywhere. Just saw that he will appear in Bloodstained as well. I mean. That's Castlevania's reboot. A gothic themed dark game. Somehow to me it appears to me that they are attempti...

Re: Shovel Knight in Yooka-Laylee

Shovel Knight is an obvious choice because he's in a dozen and a half games, despite starring in only one. I can understand working with other indies and selling or lending your IP if you needed funding or some way to draw attention to your game. But Yooka Laylee - Playtonic - didn't need that. Per...

Re: Some new info on Shovel knight

They neglect to mention how much they paid Playtonic or Team 17, or how it exactly was that Shovel Knight was shoehorned into yet another game. I was thinking Playtonic got enough kickstarter funding, so I assume Yacht Games attacked through Team 17, as Playtonic wouldn't want to have to find a new...

Re: Eurogamer writer teases "cool announcement" for tomorrow

I actually like the trend of cameo stuff in indie games that's cropped up over the years. Even back with the Bit.Trip games on Wii, the cameo stuff always felt like a "we're all in this together" thing. Really comes across to me like a genuine collaboration from people in the same field, w...

Re: Yooka Laylee playable at EGX 2016!

Seems they didn't listen to our request of having NPCs inside homes/huts rather than hanging about in the open (ala nuts and bolts) Does it really matter? I felt like they made houses/huts in Banjo because that would be easier to see considering how crappy the N64 draw-distance was. I agree, I'll t...

Re: Kewpie-Jazzy, a Yooka-Laylee inspired Kickstarter game.

Yeah, this is just bizarre. I'm sure it's a scam, and a poorly done one at that. If it were their dream project, they picked an awfully convenient time to unveil it. Some of the models/assets really clash aesthetically; it's almost like everything aside from the main character models are stock/pre-...

Definitely a ripoff and I'm not gonna back it but I definitely feel sorry from them after lurking some in the (now offline) discord room they set up. Lots of people really railing on them, some justified but a lot just people being angry and mean.

Yeah that's not a property that would be cheap, and probably isn't one Microsoft is willing to sell.

Re: Playtonic Universe - Problem?

I think it means for the foreseeable future that doing cartoonier games is what they've elected to do. There were a lot of teams at Rare, and I think that may be the reason we saw stuff like Banjo and also Perfect Dark. I don't think that means everything Playtonic ever does will have to fit that mo...

Re: Swamp Level - Confirmed?

I presumed the water bit was the same area of Hivory Towers, but below the bridge you walk over. You can see water below if you look carefully enough and the brick/honeycombs are all around. Edit: Just discovered this screenshot. You can see the same 'swamp' trees; I presume it's the same area (or ...

Re: Poll: What do you want to see more of?

I'd like to see how co-op mode works, and am interested in seeing an example of what the arcade games will end up looking like. I think I have enough of an idea of how bosses will work (probably) so would kind of prefer those to stay a mystery. That being said I would not be upset if a new playable ...

Re: NEW TRAILER - Gamescom 2016

The whole trailer has the same repeating melody heard at the start. It might be Hivory Towers, but the track has been specially composed for the trailer, I think, as the scene cuts match the music just like the first trailer did. The last trailer went with the music as well, and that was confirmed ...

Re: NEW TRAILER - Gamescom 2016

I definitely see a couple hitches, at like 1:27ish especially, but there's also several months left of optimizing and polishing, so stuff like that and some missing/minimal animations don't worry me too much.

Re: A perspective on harmonic coherency

People want to be negative about everything. About as simple as that. Ignoring the fact that the game isn't done , there's certainly nothing empty about any of the videos we've seen. Every shot has foliage, enemies, collectibles, interactables, etc. People think you were literally tripping over thi...

Re: A perspective on harmonic coherency

I think it comes from a couple things: 1. I think the (I assume) placeholder elements (Power bar UI, tongue grappling hook animation, fart bubble animation) are things that people are picking up on but maybe not sure how to vocalize. They know something seems "off" but can't quite place th...

Re: NEW TRAILER - Gamescom 2016

Still looking great! It definitely feels like there's a lot of placeholder animation and UI stuff, but hey that's what the extra dev time is for! I'm happy we're starting to see some more enemy variety, even just aesthetically, the level specific enemy stuff was always one of my favorite things in B...

Re: Three favorite characters at this point?

I gotta say, Laylee's probably come to be my favorite just from the bits we've seen. I've really come around on her design as well. Trowzer has a wonderful look and the little bit of in-game animation with the voice clip was enough to really sell me on him. Dr. Puzz probably not a typical choice but...
