Re: No blob shadows? 3D platforming needs them.

Excuse me? Does this look like a blob shadow to you? http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-89vswwMBQWA/UkXreYx_AUI/AAAAAAAAAZw/yobreu4TVUg/s1600/Screenshot+-+23_03_2013+,+03_07_07.png "No"? How about this? http://d1vr6n66ssr06c.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/sonic.jpg Lol. Yes and yes. It'...

Re: Idle Animations

I absolutely love the idle animation that was shown of Kickstarter! I really get the sense that these two are extremely close friends and have known each other for a very long time! Anyway, I came across some secondary idle animation thread, and I thought I'd import over a few of the things that had...

Re: Villain of Yooka-Laylee?

Could be a giant taking Yooka's girlfriend into his enormous castle, considering it was a dropped idea from Banjo-Kazooie that Nintendo objected against since it was too similar to Bowser, his castle, and Peach... also because it fits the whole storybook theme that the game is going with. Just a hyp...

Re: Voice Mumbling

I do want to hear the classic garglemesh or gobbledegook or whatever you want to call it come back, with the talking lasting through the length of the actual sentence. Though, I think there is one thing that can be borrowed from Nuts & Bolts ; the ability to scroll. I liked that you could go bac...

Re: And on the eighteenth* day they said "LET THERE BE IDLE ANIMATIONS!" And it was good.

I absolutely love the animation! I really get the sense that these two are extremely close friends and have known each other for a very long time! I kinda hope they add one where Laylee hangs upside-down off of Yooka's tail and falls asleep. Yooka yawns and lays on the ground on his tummy, with his ...

I could see someone doing the laundry, and there happens to be things like yellow shorts, a light blue hoodie, and scarlet underpants!

Re: No blob shadows? 3D platforming needs them.

We don't need training wheels anymore. I don't have trouble blasting around at high speeds from platform to platform in a Sonic game, nor do I have any trouble landing jumps correctly in a Mario game. I don't quite understand how these examples of how natural you find platforming to be in games tha...

Re: The nature of game saves

I've seen in games such as Serious Sam 3: BFE that you can allow for both checkpoints AND a save state system. You can use a save state if you want, but you don't have to. It autosaves after passing invisible checkpoints. However, you can also turn off the autosave if you want. So, in this game, tec...

Imaginary Studio Shenanigans

I sense an awkward moment coming when the time comes to set up the console versions of Yooka - Laylee . I imagine the scenario playing out would go something like... Chris Sutherland : Ok, guys... Who wants to take over the X-Box ONE port? ;) Mark Stevenson : Not I... *grabs ps4* :| Jens Restemeier ...

Re: Yooka needs some clothes

I'd be fine with Yooka wearing something. What you pointed out about the connection to the transformations makes sense. I haven't considered that. I guess that's why I liked them a lot more than the transformations in D onkey Kong 64 . Also, remember PlayTonic is trying to stretch the abilities of a...

Re: Formal Bosses in Project Ukulele

I like to have some sort of "climax" to the level. So, I'd like a boss in each stage. However, I'd prefer it done like Banjo-Tooie and not Donkey Kong 64 . I'd like the boss to be organically in the stage, rather than accessed by a portal. Then again, if you can make it work similarly to D...

Re: Things that you DO NOT want in this game.

I don't want FPS, or Ratchet and Clank guns... I do want FPS and Ratchet & Clank guns! (Just not as the focus. Keep it at mini-game status) Anyway... I don't want to see dim, washed-out colors, unless the theme of the stage specifically calls for it, like Clanker's Cavern or Grunty Industries. ...

Re: The most ludicrous call-to-action you can think of!

Yooka & Laylee want to revamp a bunch of traditional fairy tales, due to their obsession with crossovers and "who would win?" scenarios and go to town with it. On a more serious note, I wonder if something about that early Banjo-Kazooie idea about a giant capturing the hero's girlfrie...

Yes! YE-HEH-HEH-HEH-HEH-HEH-HEH-S! Bring on the challenge! Make it more! I NEED MORE!!! Just as long as the camera moves properly and the direction Yooka gets knocked back in isn't randomized. At least... I think that seemed to be the case in Banjo-Kazooie . Also, something that wasn't so common bac...

Re: About the artstyle.

I thought something seemed plasticy about that jungle world, but I just couldn't put my finger on it. You absolutely nailed it. That's what seemed off. Personally, I would rather see a textureblend effect used throughout the game. Super Mario Galaxy is one example of a game NOT using it, though I ha...

Re: Too much like Banjo-Kazooie?

I've played Banjo-Kazooie , Banjo-Tooie , and Donkey Kong 64 . (Along with several other collect-o-thon games.) They all play differently. I don't doubt PlayTonic will figure out something new. Heck, they've already explained that collecting pagies will make the levels larger, expanding out new area...

Re: 60 fps

I would imagine the PC version would undoubtedly support 1080p and 60FPS. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised to see support for something along the lines of 4000p and 120FPS. The consoles are a different story, but it's certainly possible to keep the standard of 1080p and 60FPS. The game is beautiful, bu...

Re: Possibly new character?

It looks like an untextured Yooka & Laylee to me. The "neck" is probably just Laylee's limbs gripping onto Yooka. I'm not a developer at PlayTonic, so I don't know for certain. Is anyone over there able to confirm? ...or perhaps will some new minor NPC arise out of this digital serendi...

Re: No blob shadows? 3D platforming needs them.

My opinion is in favor of realistic shadows, despite this not being a realistic game. It's not just because blob shadows were technical limitations at the time and realistic shadows would look better in this beautiful game. (Though those are also valid reasons.) Blob shadows are training wheels. At ...
