Re: Phil Spencer says he has no problem with Banjo & Kazooie in Smash Bros as DLC

One weird thing is that both of them are supposed to be enemies. It's such a weird idea, that it most likely can't be coincidental. But even though it was illogical, they knew it would work, because there already was one similar and beloved character on a Nintendo system. Hardly - they're the Duck ...

Re: Phil Spencer says he has no problem with Banjo & Kazooie in Smash Bros as DLC

It's still most likely inspired by B&K. The way the bird rides on the dogs back and attacks by reaching out with his beak is just so uncommonly similar, that you just can't 100% deny the inspiration was taken straight from B&K. The character is pretty much built from ground up. They could'v...

Re: Banjo and King K Rool in Smash!?

Of the pair of them, I reckon King K Rool has much more of a chance of appearing than Banjo - he's entirely owned by Nintendo so zero legal hurdles to overcome. Plus I'm still unconvinced that Nintendo would want Microsoft's nearest thing to a Mario-style mascot rubbing their noses in the fact that ...

Re: Phil Spencer says he has no problem with Banjo & Kazooie in Smash Bros as DLC

The duck rides on his back and uses his wings to help the dog fly... ...And that's literally all. The duck doesn't shoot eggs, doesn't live in a backpack and isn't even riding on a bipedal character's back. The Duck Hunt Duo is not only from the best-selling shooter game ever, it's also a culminati...

Re: Rare's 2015 announcement: Super Rare Bros.?

-James Bond from Goldeneye (If they could get the rights) So far it seems that no one holds the Bond gaming licence, thus this would be technically possible, but I think it'd be Craig's Bond rather than Brosnan's. Wondering how he'd be different from Joanna Dark (who was created to be the Rare-owne...

Re: Phil Spencer says he has no problem with Banjo & Kazooie in Smash Bros as DLC

In all honesty, I never once got a Banjo-Kazooie vibe from the Duck Hunt Duo. I reckon they are there partly to replace the Ice Climbers (another pair from the NES days), partly to celebrate one of Nintendo's earliest hits. Don't forget, the game Duck Hunt sold 28 million - more than ANY OTHER SHOOT...

Re: Microsoft apparently dedicating 2015 to celebrating Rare

Actually, does anyone else remember the reveal trailer from when Microsoft swallowed Rare back in 2002? Watch it again:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gw0bjMJ_Hm8

In it, Banjo is killed and Conker goes missing. Foreshadowing!

Re: Microsoft apparently dedicating 2015 to celebrating Rare

Imagine if the dedication to Rare for the whole of 2015 turned out to be Phil Spencer trying to get Banjo into Super Smash Bros.
That would be horrifying.

Re: Rare's 2015 announcement: Super Rare Bros.?

Thinking about it, it's been a year since Rare's last game (the mega-flop Kinect Sport Rivals), so they must have been doing something over the past year - so we can expect them to show something off at E3?
Even by Rare standards, they've been very quiet.

Re: Phil Spencer says he has no problem with Banjo & Kazooie in Smash Bros as DLC

So then why didn't Sakurai care that he was advertising Metal Gear with Snake? Simply because they're friends? Yes. That's exactly why it happened - Metal Gear is a third-party who has appeared on Nintendo systems several times. See Twin Snakes on GCN or the various MGS Game Boy games for more deta...

I chose the name in the credits, the N64 cartridge and the physical release because they're for posterity - they're special to the ones who paid for them.

Re: A new Grabbed by the Ghoulies?

I'm less keen on the idea, I must admit - there's something about the game that I found annoying.
In terms of the look and feel of the game, I mean - in fairness, I wasn't on the gameplay either (the controls did my head in).

Re: Does Rare or Nintendo own the minor DKR characters?

If Nintendo owned nothing of the GoldenEye game, there would have been nothing to stop it being released on 360. Common sense or not, if Nintendo had no copyright over the game and Rare had everything, it would have been released.

Re: Does Rare or Nintendo own the minor DKR characters?

Exactly, just as they own most of GoldenEye game but the James Bond rights and anything related to Bond (otherwise they couldn't have used GE maps and weapons in Perfect Dark). Nintendo also owns a substantial amount of the the GoldenEye code, hence why Nintendo had enough clout to veto the Xbox 36...

Also, if Phil Spencer says it's fine, and Nintendo says it's fine... then where's the problem? Nintendo hasn't said it's fine. Nintendo has said nothing yet. I really wouldn't count my chickens with this: http://nintendoeverything.com/smash-bros-fighter-ballot-may-only-be-limited-to-nintendo-charac...

Re: Does Playtonic Games needs more members?

Ehhhhh their reputation precedes them. I don't think anyone is questioning their capacity to succeed or their talent. That's not what I'm saying - I'm saying that the game is under wraps now, so people won't apply for it until they know it's something they can do. Let's not forget that while we kno...
