I think Laylee's big nose is a reference to leaf nosed bats, who use their weird noses to echolocate.

These include vampire bats, but there's a pretty wide variety of what the group eats. So there's still some room for possibility.

Compared to the previously posted pictures of real bat species, she definately looks more like a bug eater or blood sucker. That said, she's a fictional character and liberties can be taken with her species/appearance.

I think being a blood-sucker has the greatest potential for comedy, and thus is the best option.

Also it could even act as one of her abilities, now that I think about it. Yooka could throw her at enemies like a projectile and she'd latch on, sucking them dry and temporarily increasing the strength of her other abilities.

OH, that gave me an idea; what if Yooka and Laylee both liked the same food! Banjo likes honey, but Kazooie liked birdseed and the like... But what if Yooka and Laylee both at insects?

...Or if Yooka liked fruit, then Laylee could be a fruit bat! XD
