Boss Fights

Postby rardk64 » Wed May 06, 2015 4:52 pm

Now that a stretch goal for bosses has been reached, maybe we should talk about what we like in boss fights. Maybe we want to avoid another "Mad Jack" (DK64)?

What are your thoughts on bosses?

How good would it be if the boss fights took part across the whole level? Imagine being chased around Treasure Trove Cove by a huge winged toucan or sumat. Hiding in nooks and crannies.

Something happened to prompt the creature and the boss battles become bit interactive moments on the world. It'd change the feeling of the area immediately and add a different dynamic to the environment.

I'd like each boss to test your skills with a different mechanic - requiring different tactics for each one, culminating in the final boss fight testing all you've learned.

Boss fights are some of my favorite things...I hope we get some memorable ones because that is sorely lacking right now in games. I am assuming some of the boss encounters will be some future characters we might play, sort of like Mario games where you can play their expanded universe characters.

I just want them to be creative as possible when you least suspect it kind of thing as well..if they can make every battle a spectacle that would be amazing

If you're a kid, by not only is Mad Jack terrifying but also infuriatingly difficult.
As for the final boss (or an earlier one dosent really matter) I would somthing like K Rool's battle. It's funny, original, and a perfect culmination of needing to use all the skills you've learned, and applying new elements. Not too difficult, but not too easy. Gruntys first battle fealt right (maybe a little repetitive) but the Hag 1 wasn't that interesting to me.

The game will have those too. And Banjo Kazooie only had like, two things I would consider actual boss fights. Bosses were more a Banjo Tooie thing.

I'm sure the game will have plenty of races, challenges, puzzles, etc. ALL of these were mainstays for the series.

Oh :D like Assembly of Iron, etc. Makes total sense. I guess I wouldn't have traditionally thought of those fights in Banjo as boss fights, but I can respect seeing them that way.
