Dynamic Music

Postby moritasan2040 » Thu May 07, 2015 9:57 am

I don't know if that's the right word to use...but anyways, the way the music in Banjo-Kazooie would change depending on the area or situation: I really hope that returns. I still think it's one of the most brilliant videogame scores for that very reason.

If we do get dynamic music, I hope we can buy the many variations digitally; I doubt they'd want to print a five-disc boxset for the Deluxe Edition (assuming the entire score ends up being six-and-a-half hours long like Banjo-Kazooie's is). Give us the whole kitchen sink! ;D

I just want to chime in and say dynamic-music/context-sensitive music is a huge MUST for me :D

I loved, loved, LOVED all that stuff in BK/BT. Swimming music was quieter and full of marimba, as you climbed higher cliffs all the music would slowly fade out and wind would fade in, the insides of buildings had slower/quieter varieties of the songs. The music changing depending on situation added SO MUCH to the game :D

I really really really hope there is no dynamic music. In fact, let's not have any music. Let's go to a throwback to Banjo-Kazooie's notes. Let's just hold a single note for the entire duration of the level as background music. That would be fun. :)

But in all seriousness, the dynamic/changing music will totally be coming back. Wouldn't feel very much like a spiritual successor without something that added so much personality to the game.
Woaaaah, it finally came out! :o

The music always felt alive because of the dynamic fades. It's a feature I'm happy to see returning. :D

This is a must I think! I really like the dynamic music use din BK and BT (walk near the entrance to any world in Tooie to hear the music seamlessly change to a variation of the theme based on the world). It would definitely make it feel like a spiritual successor.

It's just several versions of the same song played all at once at the same tempo and length, then which the game fades between them in different areas. Very basic stuff. More advanced things have been done in the early 90s, like actual melodic transitions.

I think on the commentary for Conkers Bad Fur Dat they said they were limited to X amount of channels (10 at a time maybe?)so at least that's one limitation out of the way.
