I called it ages ago. People that are too nostalgic to "approve" of DLC can just not download it.

Well the price is right.

But seriously, can't imagine what the DLC would be like, but look forward to it.

I think it's a terrible idea. Nostalgia, sure, but with the latest spat of DLC news cramping my style, life just sucks. (And by that, I mean Splatoon pre-order GameStop-exclusive DLC...). I totally get that people enjoy DLC, but I feel like when these guys intend to make sequels and spinoffs and establishing a universe of their own, time would be better spent incorporating those ideas into the newest games and not looking for a cheap buck.

Not going to lie though, it definitely makes me want to back the game now - just so I can get the full game - but it really, really, really should be free DLC for all if they want to go that route.

Edit: I'll add in that it is possible that Playtonic uses DLC as an excuse for pushing a game that is less complete than they want and act like it's the full game, then later really completing the game through DLC, all to meet that October release date...

Hmm... I don't really know. I'm usually the one who doesn't panic about good DLC, like the Mario Kart 8 one. But that is another case. In this game, we'll have a story with several original worlds to explore, in order to finish the game as a whole. Although I know it, I have some concerns that the "package" wouldn't be complete with say, other worlds that get connected to the overworld.

BUT: If they go the Tooie route, it might feel good! With that I mean: Deliver a full-scoped game (yes, as they promise) with all the worlds that are kind of part of the main story. And when the DLC releases, leave the overworld (= Grunty's Lair equivalent) as it is and create an entrance to another, smaller adventure, that can be only accessed from the home world (= Spiral Mountain equivalent), similar to Banjo-Tooie.

That way, the "big" adventure is complete & a closed chapter, if you put it that way. Any additional adventures are apart from the original overworld and have nothing to do with the original villain or at least the home world of the original villain.

The Mario Kart 8 DLC renewed so much life into the game and slotted in seamlessly. I'm really happy Yooka-Laylee will get DLC (hopefully); the fact I'll get it free makes me even happier. I now have two releases to look forward to.

I'm a bit surprised by the confirmation of DLC in this game, but I guess it was to be expected. Anyway, DLC is fine as long as it adds substance to the game and adds to the longevity. Taylor mentioned the Mario Kart 8 DLC which is a perfect example of DLC done right: it adds to the life of the game by adding new courses and a few fan-favorite characters.

Now, if it's something useless like charging cash for just cosmetics *cough* Evolve *cough*, we're gonna have issues.

EDIT: And, come to think of it, I have to give Playtonic props letting their fans know well ahead of time that there would be DLC. Not only, that, but they'll only begin working on it after the game's been released so there's no on-disc nonsense.

My initial reaction is "AWW F#€@!" because I've seen DLC done wrong so many times. But NINTENDO has shown me DLC can be amazing with Mario Kart 8.

And I trust Playtonic. They've already shown me TONS of times that everything they touch turns into amazing. I know they won't compromise the main game experience by locking important things in the DLC. I know the base game will be complete and the DLC will add some wonderful new challenges. I trust Playtonic.

And on the bright side this is sure to distract those "NO ORCHESTRAL MUSIC" folks.

Random thought before I head off to bed: perhaps the DLC can take place within a dream or something, making the DLC worlds as crazy and fun as possible while stopping it interfering with the main story.

I don't know something about planned DLC from the get go never goes well, it's a lot of money and trust they're asking from us.
