The more I hear from them, the more reassured I feel. In Playtonic I trust.
Yooka-Laylee should be its own game with its own feeling. It shouldn't try to be like Banjo-Kazooie, it shouldn't try to be like Donkey Kong, it should be like Yooka-Laylee.

Thanks for sharing -- I'm listening now. They do get around a lot and that's great -- they're doing PR right!

The points of interest I picked up on:

- It sounds like the main villain is going to rhyme, but they stressed they're neither confirming nor denying it.

- There's likely going to be a "Jinjo spiritual successor". Some sort of audio-driven collectible that you have to listen out for rather than track down with your eyes.

- Gavin mentioned that an Arcade Machine might attack you unexpectedly. Although this was a joke, it reminds me of Minjos/Evil Beehives/Mingy Jongo in Tooie, so I expect something like this will actually be in the game somewhere.

- Playtonic don't want to reveal too much, too soon. Although making us all go mad with anticipation, I'm happy they have this mentality as it'll maintain the surprises in the long-run and keep it all fresh.

I love GameXplain, and the interview was a lot of fun! Learned quite a bit from it, actually.

Also, I just want to say, I only want the main villain to rhyme if it's true to his or her character. Andre claimed to speak for all of us, but I honestly don't want the main villain to rhyme just because Gruntilda rhymed. Piggy-backing off nostalgia is something they touched on, and having the main villain rhyme seems like a deliberate attempt to invoke memories of Banjo-Kazooie and how memorable a villain Gruntilda was.

That being said, if it makes sense for the villain to rhyme, then by all means, do it, I LOVED Gruntilda's rhymes, so I can't wait to see what new ones they come up with for this game!

There were two things in particular I found interesting in this interview:

17:03-17:46
Gavin mentioned how Yooka's tongue ability might be utilized to absorb enemies (kind of like Kirby) and change the properties of existing moves. I'm excited to see how this will expand upon the gameplay!

26:42-27:48
Gavin also mentioned that the team is aware of the different musical styles of Grant Kirkhope, David Wise, and Steve Burke, and that they have an answer for how these styles will coexist in the same game in the near future. I'm interested to see how they put each of these musical styles into context and take advantage of the contrast between them.

Another thing that I find interesting is that the kickstarter ends on the day that E3 begins.

I really hope they have their own mini-presentation or something. :)

Finally somebody asked them about the Mingy Jongo project! Now I only want to know who was there before they rebooted that account...

Great interview, as expected. Love listening to the stuff from GameXplain! Now I'm getting really curious about how the new Jinjos look & how they incorporate all these different music styles!

Ya know, with Laylee's sonar capability, those Jinjo-successors could be invisible until you get close enough to use a special move that reveals them. You'd have to locate them entirely by sound.

I'm really wondering what gameplay they will come up with with the sonar ability, they can go many directions with this. It's not really done by many games. Sound being a gameplay feature.

If you would like to try out something that utilizes sound for gameplay, to get an idea what they could be able to do with Yooka Laylee I can really recommend "Papa Sangre" It's a game for smartphones, quite innovative.
