You could have a 'blob shadow' function but not an actual shadow. Something like when Yooka jumps, Laylee fires a beam of light to the floor to determine the landing point for the gamer.
It's a different approach to solve an old issue, but there will be criticism of whatever is implemented here. Like why would Laylee do that because they'd know where they're landing. It's solely a gameplay function to allow us to complete accurate jumping.
I think it's quite telling that the recent Mario games still use them though.
