After what Microsoft did to Rare, I don't understand why anyone would want Playtonic locked up. It baffles me.

I think from Nintendo's perspective, it'd be really smart to get behind this project and make it an exclusive to their platforms. For Playtonic themselves, though, that really limits the amount of people who can play their game, which wouldn't be great.

Since I buy all Nintendo systems anyway and think Rare-stlye games fit Nintendo systems best anyway, I'd be all for it, but since we're talking about if it is something that Nintendo should do, I think it's more important if it would be a good idea for Nintendo. And I think yes, it absolutely would be. They have no european developer presence anymore, they suffer from having sold off Rare tremendously and they themselves do not develop collectathons anymore, although they fit the audience perfectly. Therefore, I think, buying a small studio full of super-talented developers who are willing to make games that would compliment Nintendo's line-up perfectly would be a fantastic step. Also, if they did buy Playtonic, Playtonic would only have to worry about one platform for their game, which in turn should free up some ressources.

I wonder if the higher ups at Nintendo are aware of Playtonic.

To answer the main question of the thread, yes, Nintendo should REALLY think about locking this project up!

I feel like they got a bit cocky after the success of the Wii, rested on their laurels, happy to churn out the next instalment of their major sellers on home and hand-held consoles, but running a bit dry on innovation. If they could make it use motion controls, it got the green light, they'll think about the design bit later, and the novelty for the players wore off - a while ago.

What the guys at Playtonic are shooting for (long and short term) would give the Nintendo brand an injection of fresh IP to play with whilst upholding their values of games that are non-offensive, challenging and engaging, but overall just FUN!

Nintendo's announcement that they're branching out to smart devices and a new console :D suggests that they've acknowledged they've got some ground to make up and they're being a bit more open-minded. If they can't see the benefits of being associated with whatever Playtonic release, knowing what these guys are capable of, then that will be bitterly disappointing (for the guys at Playtonic as much as the fans, I'd imagine), and it will be totally Nintendo's loss.

Having said that, I'm sure we could all sympathise with Playtonic if they felt that Nintendo were asking for too much out of the partnership and the risk to lose control over the IP was too high, so fingers crossed, they can work something out!

(apologies for long post!!)

i don't think it would be in the companys interests to let nintendo own there IPs or to just limite them selfs to one platform i want to see this company grow & be success & in total control of there IPs & creative freedom & there games in the hands of as many people as possible! that would be the best business move that would best benefit there companys growth & profits as well as benefit the consumers as well i mean just look what microsoft did with banjo NOTHING! & look what nintendo has done with an IP thats not mario, zelda, pokemon, fire emblem related basically nothing so playtonic should keep there IPs & be on as many platforms as they can! especially when there starting out with there 1st game as being playtonic

No. No. Get it on as many platforms as possible. No need to be "locked" any where
