If there's a beta (Early Access), would you play it?

I wondered about this. I played a few Early Access games, hunted a few bugs out and gave suggestions. It was fun for a few games, sometimes my suggestions even made it into updates, but for other games I wish I would have waited for it to be complete and enjoyed the final version of the product as my first experience of it.

Now what about Project Ukulele? Well first of all, I don't know if there'll be an Early Access version. My hopes are that there will not, because I'd be tempted to play it in order to help. But for such a game, I really think I'd prefer my first experience to be the complete game, and enjoy it in all its glory.

If there ever is a beta, I'm sorry Playtonic but I won't bug hunt for you this time. I wish all the best for the game, so it's hard not to help, but I hope that Playtonic will have enough funds to hire game testers instead. If there's an Early Access version, I will need a support group for people who want to resist the temptation of playing an unfinished product.

thats an interesting point, while i would love to get my hands on it, but on the other hand when i play it, i would like it to be the full game. so while it kills me, i think ill wait for a full release before i play it.

Yes. I would play it a hundred times, then some more. I'd discover the new Stop 'N' Swop, post it in these forums, become internet-famous and live the rest of my days on an exotic island.

I get what you're saying though. Playing alpha/beta versions of games can somewhat ruin the final experience. It's a bit like a giant spoiler. I'd be willing to pay that price, though. I feel so indebted and grateful to Playtonic for all the games they made while I grew up -- I'd enjoy giving back to them in any way I could. I also find the development of games fascinating; being in the process through early access testing sounds like a lot of fun.

I enjoy early access games to help the devs with bugs, doesn't usually bother me that I'm spoiling anything. Also playing the game asap is always nice :p

I don't think there's anything wrong with early access/beta, but I am really looking forward to having a "play it together!" experience with everyone here and other places on the internet. The idea of all of us starting at the same time and not knowing much (beyond that one guy that gets to a place first and tells everyone about it :l) is very appealing to me.

If there is an early access, I will also be avoiding certain kinds of spoilers, just to keep my first experience new.

If I had a Steam account, and this game appeared on Steam first (considering that Project U. is coming out for the PC first), I wouldn't mind beta testing this baby.

What they could do is keep the narrative under wraps while the gameplay aspects remain accessible. That way you'd still be surprised when the story is unlocked on release.
