cancelled rare games re-imagined?

Postby Pgcrooner » Tue Mar 17, 2015 7:38 pm

Do you guys think playtonic might revisit cancelled concepts in a new way. What if they did a spiritual reimaginibg of pronect dream or dinosaur planet?
What do you guys think?

It would all really depend on how they go about it.
It is most likely that those concepts were already patented and if they were, then it still belongs to Rare and won't be able to be made by Playtonic... I suppose they could create something similar to it... like a spiritual successor to a concept haha

Just because I'm not posting doesn't mean I am stalking your every move, determining my next course of action...

As was discussed in another topic, Donkey Kong Racing/Sabreman Stampede would be a great canceled game concept to revive.

But the original concept a pirate themed rpg or action rpg (ala Zelda) with quirkey characters was abandoned in favor of creating our favorite platformer banjo-kazooie :D . This may give them an opportunity to create something similar to that concept but unique to playtonic

The most desired cancelled game I want to see getting revived next to Conker's Other Bad Day is Urchin. Oh, where to even begin? It was a game about a roughly 12-year old gothic female child. You would have a wild boar as a companion solving the game's various obstacles and puzzles. He was quite heavy and strong, and the girl was quite light. It was a kind of a Banjo-Kazooie dynamic in that one was helping the other and one had strengths and one had weaknesses.

There was going to be a fighting system in place called “Dirty Fighting”. The girl was going to be quite brutal. When she fights she has to use everything. Since she’s not very strong, so she has to be very clever to survive. She would do things like kick her opponents in the balls, or use traps to kill them.

It was going be having a dark fairytale like story. For example: One of the quests would involve you killing a princess and ripping open her guts to get her heart, on the face of it it looked like you were quite a bad character, but in reality you’d then find out the princess was an evil vampire who was killing local girls.

This is what the main protagonist would have looked like:

Wow! I've never heard of that project before...sounds like an interesting concept. I do like the design of the protagonist. :D

God, chris seavor had a whole library of game concepts for rare. unfortunately that was around the time that Microsoft wanted rare to focus on making kinect titles so most of them were killed in the concept phase. It's probably why he left.
thankfully we now have gory detail and playtonic making fantastic games. Rusty pup is something I'm looking forward to on wiiu.

I'd be willing to put a few quid on most of the concepts at Rare having never made it to the public eye. Game concepts are often kept off the table till their time comes round for the 'just in case' scenario, which is coincidentally where Playtonic falls into. :P I'd imagine that we'll be seeing all sorts of things that stem from ideas had 5 or 10 years ago... perhaps longer.

I'd love to see Donkey Kong Racing come back to life with David Wise on the score.

Apologies for the double post but I wanted to run something by you guys. I noticed more than a couple of threads that wanted people's opinions regarding banjo-kazooie: nuts&bolt. I noticed for the most part a great many of us have come to the conconsensus that the concept wasn't a bad idea but choosing to make it a banjo-kazooie game hurt it. I've also seen the guys at playtonic look back on nuts&bolts with fondness. My question is if in the future they wanted to re-explore that concept in a spiritual sequel that has a new title with new characters, would you guys be cool with it?
i think I would
