I would love to continue supporting the developers of a game I like and am emotionally invested in. It's telling them "You make something I like! More!"

I do feel off about things like extra maps, though. It feels out of place in a platformer. But that's the beauty about DLC; I can choose to buy it or not, and if that's worth it to someone else, who am I to tell them not to?

From everything they've said, it seems their universe will be more installment-based than DLC-based. Like when we had cartridges. Got a good idea after the game is out? Put it in the next game (or an entirely different game).

I for one favor this approach.
Make the forum great again.

I haven't read the whole thread (I can be lazy), so sorry if I'm repeating anything!

Being a Nintendo owner almost exclusively, I really have very little experience with DLC. Actually, I've only ever bought it once, and that was for Mario Kart 8. For about $15 I basically got a quarter of an entire Mario Kart game. Since I paid more than $60 for MK8, $15 for a quarter of a game is a great value. I've heard that typically DLC is overpriced, and offers things that should have been in the original release in the first place. If Playtonic wants to add on what is basically a mini-version of the entire game and charge accordingly like in MK8, I have no problem with it! Extras are always nice.

At the same time, the time and money spent making that little update could go towards making an entirely new, full game instead, so I'm a little torn.

A lot of the really expensive DLCs seem to be for making the game twice their original size are for things like FPS, and AAA titles. I don't think a game like this would go that route in the first place. I don't see the issue with something smaller, like $10, if people really want something like it.

I don't usually buy DLC. Sometimes it comes with whatever edition I get of a game. In this games case, worry about finishing it first.

Actually with PD0 they released a pay for dlc with 4 new multi maps. Then released 2 vintage maps for free. So yeah. They have a decent track record.
Personally I would love a full game right out of the gates. They have already committed to future full games using the characters in game.
Personally I hate dlc. It really is just an excuse to fleece the consumer for content that should have been in the game to begin with.
Also it allows devs to be lazy in creating a full game from the get go.
And. When the the initial game is finished and, we are expecting something new, they have to halt production to work on an already finished product.
Meh. Full game. Next game. No fleecing.

If they do DLC they should do 10~20 dollar expansion packs, rather than the typical "buy this skin / cheat code" DLC model of the past generation.

Personally, I wouldn't be opposed to DLC in any way. Considering the nature of the game, however, I'd very much like to have a strong singular package that stands on its own and doesn't require or even really want DLC. With a game like this, it's more exciting in my eyes to push what would be DLC into a potential sequel.

Also considering the way they've described the progression of the game though, I think if Yooka-Laylee is a singular project with no sequels planned or wanted, I think it would be a fantastic idea to make level packages that expand the game and fit in great whether you have them on your first run or are just expanding on your completed save.
