What do you think will be the price of the game?

Postby polomi » Fri Mar 20, 2015 4:01 am

Nowadays most indie games are pretty cheap. Even some impressive ones like Natural Selection 2 barely cost about 20$. There are of course exceptions like Serious Sam 3 which costed about 40$ on release (by the way, I gotta say that Devolver is one of the best publishers out there, if Playtonic were to use them I would not mind).

But it seems to me that people expect indie games to be cheap. I've heard many times things like "no way I'm gonna drop this much for an indie game", even though I felt that the price was fair given the content. It looks like people devalue games juste because they're indie.

How do you feel about that, and what do you think would be the appropriate price point for Project Ukulele?

If it's on the same scale as Banjo-Kazooie, I can see it being sold as high as 30$, but I don't think it would sell at anything more than that.

I would pay anything they asked for as long as I could afford it. I'm not entirely sure how Kickstarter affects the price of a game, if at all. I mean, it's sort of like buying the game in advance and then buying it again upon release. There's probably a flaw in this logic, or my logic, somewhere...

I'm going to just guess £10/£15 on a whim. I'd happily pay more though.

If the game were to ever come out on a major console, It would most likely cost more then.

I'm going to guess around $30.00 USD (about £20). I have no reason for this, but I plan on Kickstarting a ton becasue I have been waiting for this for too long!

It all really depends on how big the game is in the end. If it's going to be around the same size as BK (or a tad smaller) I wouldn't mind seeing a £30 to £40 mark

Just because I'm not posting doesn't mean I am stalking your every move, determining my next course of action...

I think their original target would probably be $20. Who knows how big this game will get though. I'd pay anything for it.

I really hope they make enough profit from the game (and possibly left over from the Kickstarter if it does really well) to have enough funds for a second game. The company's success may lie in the profits made from Ukulele...

With standard Wii U titles coming out at $60, I'd hope $60.
Woaaaah, it finally came out! :o

For comparison, here is the same question asked about Killing Floor 2 on their forum.

I think it's a relevant comparison because I feel like KF2 should be about the same price or even more expensive than Project Ukulele (if the latter is similar to Banjo-Kazooie in scope).

Seeing some of your answers, I also feel like there is a bias on this forum because most of you are Nintendo customers and you pretty much don't have a choice so you suck it up and buy 60$ games. On PC only exceptionally highly marketed AAA games ever sell at 60$, Ukulele would not sell at all at this price.

i'm hoping for a full retail experience so i'd say 40$ to 60$ whatever price justifies the amount of content/length

You guys DID play Rare's old games right? The ones done with, oh, less than 20 people that made the N64 be as amazing as it was? Literally the same team we're talking about guys.

IMO, the price would actually be in the range of $19.99 to $59.99, that is of course, if the game is of high demand, and has good, clean, Nintendo-like quality.

$30 seems to be the maximum people will pay for an indie game.
