Splatoon references

Postby Dracul JOSHI » Fri Jun 05, 2015 4:24 pm

I would be totally fresh if they manage to put in a line like:

"Paint X"
"Do we look like a squid kid?"

Also, plus points for everybody calling somebody or something '(not) fresh'... or somebody somewhere dropping a sea bass (just on time).

That idea sounds as timeless as Gex talking about Supermarket Sweep.

Honestly in over a years time, do you think people will be talking about Splatoon? It's a good game and all but referencing other games really dates a game.

Splatoon is Nintendo only, they will never make a cameo for it. They have nothing with the game. It's as much logic as putting in Battlefield cameos, hell... Half life 3!

No-go.

proof or GTFO

Edit: yeah I knew most of those ;) I have a thing for easter eggs. I can't remember the game but there is a shooter with a rainbow farting pony gun, lol. Some games take it quite far. Diablo 3's happy pony level is incredible eerie, and the music sounds very depressing. It's actually a classical piece slowed down in reverse.

Because it is new, and as we all know the hype train loves new games. Which are as quickly forgotten a few weeks/months after.

aint a legend.

Well, this is a PC game and Splatoon is Nintendo exclusive.

Doesn't make sense.

Yooka-Laylee doesn't really need to reference any other game. If they happen to come up with some humorous or relevant dialogue that happens to have a reference to something else, then so be it. I would rather not have anything feel forced. Let's just let Playtonic make the jokes and references, they're pretty good at it.

While I wouldn't mind the occasional (and ideally somewhat subtle) reference to past Rare titles like the Banjo games (since this is a spiritual successor to the N64 Banjo games being made by ex-Rare devs), I don't think the game really needs references to anything or everything that might be hot right now.

It's one thing to reference their prior work, particularly the titles this one's meant to be a spiritual successor to, it's a totally different thing to reference completely unrelated works just because they happen to be somewhat popular right now (and who knows whether Splatoon will even be quite as popular by the time this game is released).

Yeah! And Yooka can do the Harlem shake, Laylee can dance to Gangnam Style, and the main villan can do the ice bucket challenge!

While I enjoy Splatoon, and don't think it will be forgotten anytime soon, I'd avoid putting in any non-timeless references not related to Rare. I would honestly find it cringy even if it came out tomorrow.
