I think Playtonic knew.

I think they knew that there would be no Banjo Kazooie 3. Is that why they decided now was the time to move on Yooka-Laylee? Hoping one of the devs will chime in now that the cat is out of the bag.

But seriously though, I was thinking about it and I think Playtonic knew this was coming and that's a factor in why they chose to dive and completely claim this niche now.

You think so? I think it's just a coincidence.

I mean they tried reviving the genre back at mundorare, then Playtonic came along. I don't think they knew all that time.

I suspect they knew that Rare wasn't going to do a platformer at any time in the foreseeable future.

That likely galvanised them into starting a company to make the kind of games they wanted to make.

Im guessing they knew or they are making banjo-threeie thriee theie?
But microsoft didnt let them add what they wanted to do so they left.
The question is
Why did rare accept microsofts offer for buying them?

I have no doubt Playtonic knows. Gavin and Chris I'm pretty sure have said they knew what Rare was up to, and their Rare friends have stopped into Playtonic's office, and all is well as a relationship between them.
Woaaaah, it finally came out! :o

Even if Rare did announce a Banjo Threeie, there is a good chance they would have messed it up anyway. Yooka-Laylee now carries on the torch of the genre, so the bear and bird can be laid to rest.

It kind of seems like both sides have developed a love hate relationship with each other.

The older fans are like "come on. You KNOW what we want. Why do you play with mah feelz."

Rare is like "we want to do our own thing."

Fans know what they want and, are willing to give multiple chances for redemption.

Rare knows what their fans want but, for some reason they WILL not do it.
Tbh this is Rares time to make good on 15 years of fan dissatisfaction.
The future doesn't look good either. The weakest gun in Goldeneye goes on record stating that if there is a new Perfect Dark: it will be a story driven non fps.

Probably time for Ken Lobb to just get out of the kitchen. Bye Felicia.

Because this is what we want?
They KNOW what we want they don't care.

Thank God for Playtonic.
And thank God for Bethesda and Fallout 4 for giving consumers what we were looking for.

It was obvious anyway I don't know why you all believed the rumours. When playtonic said "fans will be satisfied with what rare is doing" and NOT "fans will be over the moon with what rare is doing" it makes it obvious.

We wouldn't be satisfied with Banjo-Threeie we'd be ecstatic.

Playtonic probably knew it wouldn't be at E3 and likely still know a lot more we don't about Rare.

I doubt it had any impact on making Yooka-Laylee as it sounds like having to wait for their lives to "line-up right", so to speak, was most responsible for the timing of Yooka-Laylee.
Well meaning Wally.
