Playtonic Lock In

Postby DarkTone » Wed Jun 24, 2015 12:45 pm

I haven't seen any evidence to or for, but on the KS it says backers get access to the forums.

Is that the case like MN9, or did Playtonic mean something else?

Where about on the kickstarter does it say that?

I remember a mention of a backer only section of the forum

Perhaps they decided to ditch the idea of a backer only section for the forum? Anyway, here's the source:

I can't think of any use for a backer forum, unless Playtonic wanted to use the forums to update us on things they're working on to try and keep the details and discussions somewhat 'secure' from the outside world*.

*But of course, with over 70k backers, the information is going to be leaked all over the internet anyway.

I guess it's a little disappointing that Playtonic don't advertise the forums, like, at all. Out of 70,000 backers, I find it hard to believe that only a tiny handful are interested enough to join the discussions here. There was no mention of the forums on the Kickstarter except for the backer section on that image.

Actually, a backer-only section could be a useful place to compile feedback regarding the Toybox and Toybox++. Assuming they want feedback at all. Other than that, I mean... the forums is basically backer-only anyway XD and I agree a backer-only section would not be needed outside of providing feedback for those demos.

I'm of the opinion that forum interest will be going up naturally around summer 2016.
To be honest, there's not really so much to "discuss" regarding the game at the moment.

The number of forum sections is quite weak too. Since the Yooka Laylee discussion is low. I suggest more forum sections to cater to more interests. Or atleast sub-forums in the Community Discussion.
No one likes to browse a entire forum section for so many different subjects that could turn up.

There needs to be content if a community is to thrive. In order for there to be content there needs to be members online.

In order for there to be members online, people need to know that this place exists. And that people are interested in discussing.

It's up to Playtonic to push some advertisement for the forum. Be that mentioning it (IN ALL THE NEWS).
Or other ways.

But we as current members can also contribute to this by opening interesting discussions, generate content and spread the word to friends and family. Have it in your signature on other forums etc.

I'm surprised Playtonic hasn't advertised the forum much, too. I only learned about this forum because they mentioned it on that one presentation about Yooka-Laylee where they showed the first few screenshots :P

The Backer Forum will likely open up once they have had time to set up surveys and such for the backers. That way they know who actually backed and gets access.

I for one hope they open a backer only section of the forum, just for special things like the Toolbox and other discussions and polls.

Well they have to now cause it's advertised as a prize in the kickstarter which people have paid money for.

But still, it is pointless.

Maybe the backer forum was the comment section on the Kickstarter page :)
Joke aside, I don't think opening a backer forum now would be really useful. Maybe when we'll get a more in detail trailer or as other people mentioned, the demo, then maybe would it be better to open the backer-only forum.
By the way, how could they make a backer only forum? You'd receive a code to enter during the signing in process I imagine?

Maybe a shout out after every interview .Also, a backers only section would be great, it doesn't exclude non backers completely.

They just tweeted out about the forums about 30 minutes ago so maybe we'll see some new users.

And while he shouldn't generalize... if someone hasn't backed why the hell would they even be here? We're here to "watch our investment grow" so to speak. If you're interested enough to check the forums every day (or every hour :?) you were probably interested enough to drop 15 measly dollars into the game.

Edit: Looks like 8 guests... buncha lurkers!
