Should the signpost be the only character with "goggly" eyes?

Postby Wolfen » Wed Sep 09, 2015 10:23 pm

In Banjo-Kazooie, Tooie, DK64, and to an extant the DKC games, most of the characters had a distinctive goggle-shaped eye style most of us are familiar with...

So far none of the Yooka-Yaylee cast shown atm including our main duo have this eye style..except for the signpost..

Do you think more characters in the game should have this eye style or Playtonic stay away from it?

They definitely shouldn't stay away from it. I think its harder to fit them onto characters with these days graphics it just wouldn't look right. I think they'll stick to putting the googly eyes on inanimate things.

Large googly eyes are a staple of classic Rare. Photoshop the eyes from the original Banjo kazooie onto the them from BK:N&B and you would have a design that's both modern yet expressive. The point being that bulging eyes are what make rare games their distinct style and removing that would be a step away from making YL a successor.

Not wanting to sound contrary, but I'm not concerned about this, simply because I have a feeling that the sign with the googly eyes was a placeholder rather than an actual character.

No, more things will have them. They've said as much.

I definitely want to see full characters with this eye style!

I think the eyes are a given. The Kickstarter had eyes all over it -- its a classic Rare aesthetic and many people like the style.

For the record I like the sign post character. I doubt it's going to be a 'main' character, but it will probably have slightly more significance than the inanimate posts in Tooie.
