In the interest of stimulating discussion which has ceased for the last week, I argue that Playtonic should only make 3D platforming (and collectathon) games for the next few years. To help revive a genre, one stellar title will not be enough to encourage developers to invest their own time in the genre which has seen little activity. If any other 3D platforming games come out as a result of Yooka-Laylee, it would simply be due to seeing the kickstarter success. Playtonic needs to demonstrate that people aren't looking for one great platformer every half or full decade, but many. Playtonic should demonstrate the popularity of 3D platformers by releasing second and third platformers - Yooka-Laylee may get them sufficient income to do effective wide-reaching advertising and not relying on word of mouth/keyboards, which can benefit their upcoming games.
Jumping to another genre after they've founded the company with a goal of reviving a genre seems to lack foresight at best.
Woaaaah, it finally came out!
