Alternate names for the apparent "N64 Shader" mode

Postby John Enigma » Sun Nov 15, 2015 4:31 am

I know it sounds weird, but given the fact that Playtonic is planning on putting a shader mode as a bonus for the game, people are coming up with the idea that is gonna be called "N64 Shader" mode. That's a big no-no considering that N64 means Nintendo 64, and because if Yooka-Laylee is going to appear on other consoles, they might as well give this option another name, especially if it's on other competitive, home consoles.

I'm gonna put some suggestions in a poll to see if any of you like it. Otherwise, you can also vote for the last option.

Another thing is that if you have a better name that any of the ones that I put in the poll, you can put it in your replies, if you want.

I like the idea of "Classic Mode", specifically mentioning 64-bit seems off to me since low poly would be more accurate. 90's mode isn't a bad alternative, though.

Something that I forgot to ask was that if the shaders that Playtonic is gonna put in the game are gonna be the same or from different styles?

What do I mean by different styles? I mean that if the shaders are going to appear on all consoles (except for the Mac version*), which include Wii U, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC (via Steam and GOG.com) they should have their own Classic styles.

Again, what do I mean by this? Let's put it this way. If a shader mode is going to appear in console, it would be nice if they made it in a style that would resemble their past versions. Here's what I mean:

1. If Nintendo Wii U is gonna have a Classic Mode, the shader per se, should have a style similar to classic Nintendo 64 games like Super Mario 64, Banjo-Kazooie/Banjo Tooie, Conker's Bad Fur Day and Donkey Kong 64.

2. If PlayStation 4 is gonna have a Classic Mode, the shader should have a style similar to classic PlayStation/PSOne/PSX games like the classic Crash Bandicoot series and Spyro series.

3. And for the Xbox One that even though the original Xbox came out in the year 2000, people need to notice that it was made by Microsoft. With that being said, if the Xbox One is gonna have a Classic Mode, is gonna have a style similar to the classic games that were made for the 90's Microsoft PC's.** Yes, I'm talking about those classic PC's. Which style of games do you ask? Well, I'm talking about classic PC games like Rayman 2: The Great Escape, Croc: Legend of the Gobbos, and Croc 2. And yes, what I mentioned were PC ports. But they also had a different style than their console competitors. People also say that certain ports of those games that were made in the 90's were great than their console versions.

4. As for PC, the style should be the same thing that I mentioned for the Xbox One.

*Mac, I don't know that much about classic games that came out for Mac, but some of you must know, right? Right?

**Another style that I forgot to mention was the same classic style that got re-ported for Xbox One's Rare Replay.

That is all.

What do you think?

We have Rextro SixtyFourus. I would not be surprised if N64 Shader mode is what is used, but if trademark or something comes up, then 64-bit is perfectly fine.

But I still voted for Playtonic to name it, as it's their game.
Woaaaah, it finally came out! :o
