Doesn't every WiiU game have this function? I thought it was half the point of the controller. I've never used my WiiU pad as my main game screen though so I don't know if there are games that can't.

It would be nice if they added a variation of screens for the gamepad if you just want to use it as a inventory screen if there is an inventory, it gets very distracting when both screens are playing the game at the same time.

Well that settles that.

Hopefully there's more options to.

This is an amazing concept. Why hasn't any other company done this?

I only know Shantae and the Pirate's Curse that let's you change items on the Pad and look at a Map or Collectibles, without the need to pause the game itself on the TV.
Also you could play the whole game on the Wii U pad.

This is great news. I prefer sitting somewhere comfortable and playing on the Gamepad rather than staring up at the TV. I imagine it's a lot easier to make the Gamepad play the full game off-TV as well; adding inventories and maps will undoubtedly mean more work. Although taking advantage of the Gamepad's second screen in other ways may appeal to some, I probably wouldn't use any additional features -- e.g. I never use the Gamepad map or horn in Mario Kart 8.
