With NX coming in March 2017...

Postby sweeneyrya » Wed Apr 27, 2016 2:46 pm

Yooka-Laylee can still come to the Wii U, this Fall! And it might be one the most anticipated games at E3 2016!

Well, we already knew the NX wouldn't interfere with the Wii U version's plans, thanks to the interview podcast.

I still wish they'd do a NX port. If Ninty really plans to make that machine more third-party friendly / similar to the competitors (in terms of architecture), then that shouldn't be too hard to do. In addition to being on port-friendly Unity already.

I just want to have a version that's on par with the PS4 standard. It would also flow well with the NX launch if they will indeed delay the game to 2017. I know that this was never promised and probably won't happen, but I really wish it does.

God knows if Nintendo decides to release NX dev kits on either December 2016 or January 2017 to third-party developers and indie developers (like Playtonic Games).

If they do, then I would love for Playtonic to port Yooka-Laylee to the Nintendo NX.

I certainly have nothing against the idea of a possible NX port, the more systems the merrier!

I don't expect to see one, though, but that entirely depends on whether or not Playtonic can get a dev kit, how easily the game can be ported to the system, and whether Playtonic would actually want to port the game in the first place or if they'd want to get started working on their next project (which itself would depend on when the game ends up releasing, if it's delayed close to or past the NX launch it might make sense to make a port for the NX if it's not much work to do it).

If Yooka-Laylee does still come out in the targeted October 2016 date, then I think it's absolutely perfectly fine to exclude the NX. I would say it is reasonable though to port over to the NX if there are are delays with Yooka-Laylee that push it into Jan 2017 or later; I don't expect them to though.
Woaaaah, it finally came out! :o

The only thing I hope is for Yooka-Laylee to not end up like what was it called again... (I really had to look the name up) "Project Cars" that decided to never publish on WiiU and "are waiting" for NX to come out...

Yooka-Laylee can easily become the game of the year 2016 on the WiiU! (If they can publish it at the end of this year.)

^Yeah. And if it becomes succesful and Nintendo starts shipping NX dev kits to indie developers, hopefully Playtonic makes a Yooka-Laylee NX port.

I believe the devs will at some point want to see thier game on the NX. They're 'yuge' Nintendo fans, generally speaking.
Obviously they're not going to go back on their promised Wii U version, nor will they suddenly decide a NX port is priority one.

Having this on NX means wasted dev time porting to a console that currently nobody knows a single thing about. I'd rather they just work on another title and put that on the NX. Plus, I'm sure as hell not buying an NX until it has about ten to twelve solid exclusive titles. I can count exactly 7 WiiU titles that I enjoyed. I got burned hard by that system and Nintendo is going to have to work like a MF to get me to even consider looking at the NX.

I'd really like to have an NX port of Yooka-Laylee. It would be an excellent reason to buy the game again and play it on a Nintendo console, since I chose the PS4 version when the Kickstarter went live last year. Not to mention, all future games from Playtonic Games are very likely to get an NX release. Whereas the Wii U will be obsolete by the time Yooka-Laylee is released in Q2 2017.

It is only a matter of time before Playtonic Games announces that Yooka-Laylee is pushed back to Q2 2017. Why you ask? Because it's a tradition for them you know...

I wouldn´t be even surprised if they delay Yooka Laylee. But on the other hand, it wouldn´t be even a bad thing.

When they can handle the full game in the time ´til october, that´s totally fine, but they should take their time to polish YK until we can reflect our faces in it. c:

And about the topic theme...well, maybe in the future?
But i guess NX is the home for future Playtonic games. First let´s wait and see, how Yooka Laylee is going to rock the market. :D

Kinda damned if you do damned if you don't. There were delays for a long time, then people got mad so devs started pushing broken games on time. Then people got mad so devs started delaying games.

1 solution:
Give us a correct release date in first place. ;)
It doesn't have to be too specific, i.e.: Quarter 1 - 2017.

I don't care of they announce something for 2018, but I do care if they announce something for 2016 and delay it (multiple times) and it ends up being released in 2018.
Releasing broken games is also a no-go.
So again: Correct release date in first place, no matter how long till initial release.
