In an instant every worry I have ever had about this project dissipated.
Sentence after sentence, my grin grew wider. The attention to animation (with the rollout's fluditiy! Damnit, Sutherland, I love you for going into that!), physics/intertia--even the attention to voices, for crying out loud! I couldn't contain myself. Then they acknowledge the divide between Kazooie's level design and Tooie's interconnected structure! And then they talk about a small Disney influence in the amazing art direction! And then they emphasize the importance of value in collectibles! And then they describe the the waterfall puzzle (that sounded like PURE Banjo, oh my god), and the world expanding! Not-Jinjos all have their own behaviors! The sonar move revealing platforms, etc., etc., etc.! I simply COULD NOT HANDLE THE HYPE. WORD AFTER WORD, EXACTLY. WHAT. I WANTED. TO HEAR.
And then
I got to the screenshots.
GOOGLY EYES ON STUPID THINGS LIKE CRATES. LAYLEE'S PERSONALITY. COMFY IGLOO, AND THEMED ENEMIES IN A CORNER OF SOME AMAZING WORLD THAT ALREADY LOOKS BETTER THAN THE SNOW AREA OF HAILFIRE PEAKS.
DIALOGUE INTERACTION. AMAZINGLY COMFY Y-L PIRATE HOME (bat ship crazy <3 <3 <3). GORGEOUS LIGHTING. Dr. QUACK'S PERFECTLY STUPID DESIGN. THAT HUGE EXPANSIVE FIRST WORLD. SLIDING ON ICE. THAT CLOUD AND HIS SILLY HILARIOUS FACE. WHAT ARE THEY STANDING ON THERE, IS THAT SOME TREASURE TROVE COVE-STYLE CHEATING DEVICE. CAP B LOOKS FRIGGIN MENACING. GOLDENY SHINY QUILLS. LOOK AT THAT MINECART SECTION AND THAT ARCADE, ARE YOU EVEN SEEING THIS?! AND. DID. YOU. JUST. SAY. THOSE. WERE. SPRITES?!?!?!
JUST...
JUST--
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!
OH MY GOD. I am sorry for any doubt I ever had. Any comment that doubted that you guys still had it--I'm so sorry. This IS Banjo-Threeie as far as I'm concerned, and only you guys could make me feel this way. I haven't felt this level of raw, childlike glee since the N64 days. Please, continue and let no one stop you. This is all absolutely amazing, and the only reason I took this long to praise you for your BRILLIANCE is because I have been bothering every single person I know, acting like a kid on Christmas and spreading the word as much as possible. I knew the second I saw that hula-hoop with eyeballs that Rareware was back--something I could only fantasize about years ago.
Thank you. Thank you thank you thank you. Seriously, from the bottom of my heart. I am genuinely glad I got to live to see this day.
Long live Playtonic.
