In terms of secrets, I think nice collectibles are key.

I think Gavin said that they want players that have little to no time feel like they have progressed in the game even if they play for short periods of time.

That may hint at quills being permanently collected. Will they dissappear I don't know but at least we know you'll not loSe all your quills if you die.

I think a "master quest" mode style could be implemented after you beat the game.

1)You have to collect all the quills Banjo-Kazooie style that means all at once and not dying.

2)enemies attacks inflict double damage and there are less butterflies per level to recover health.

I'm going for a more roguelike approach 8)

All at once or back to 0

Actually loved it in BK.

It makes the accomplishment of collecting everything much more challenging. the quill requirement could be scaled down in terms of actual quills needed per instance to continue further to make it a fair solution.

E.g. After 2 levels (400 quills) you only need 200 to continue to lvl 3.

Likewise: you only need 50 quills for new moves over 2 levels, there are 3 moves to get. (150/200)

Yooka-Laylee should be its own game with its own feeling. It shouldn't try to be like Banjo-Kazooie, it shouldn't try to be like Donkey Kong, it should be like Yooka-Laylee.

What if in every world there is a hidden "quill bank" or something that you could find and store all of the quills that you've picked up? If you leave a world or die without depositing your quills in the bank, you have to pick up those quills again when you reenter the world. You can purchase moves from Trowzer with the quills you have on hand, but if you're going for 100%, you have to either deposit the quills you find before each time you leave the world/die, or you have to pick up all 200 quills and then deposit them in one sitting.

Personally, I would enjoy the challenge of picking up all quills in one sitting. But there are twice as many quills as there are notes in BK, so it might be overly frustrating and tedious for some players. For those players... we have the quill bank, which would be a challenge to find on its own!
