Blob Shadows are absolutely needed in platforming, fact, unless you like missing jumps to what feels like RNG. It gets frustrating fast. There is no way to position yourself in 3D space without an indicator of your location. In a 2D game it's fine because you can judge your X+Y visually compared to the location of other objects. Z requires an indicator on the surface. This is very, very well researched - how many games have you made? How many games have Chris Sutherland and the rest of Playtonic made?
I was thinking the blob shadows are actually too light when jumping on those propeller platforms. I can very clearly see where I am when jumping between the green and orange blocks, but those propeller platforms just eat the shadow. You're unable to tell your horizontal position until it's almost too late anyway.
