Should Yooka-Laylee get the Pokemon Go treatment somewhere down the line?

I personally think the collectathon platformer format is perfect for a Pokemon Go style game. Just put all the collectibles one world would have in each predetermined chunk of land. Put the quills in minor shops, pagies in modern landmarks, ghost writers at historical landmarks and so on and so forth. It could also implement the systems described in these videos:

Not sure it would work, but of course I'd love someone make an effort at an AR-style game based on N64 style platform / collectathons.

I'm trying to think of how the gameplay of BK/YL would translate. Picking up Quills doesn't seem as exciting as finding cute Pokemon, though it would be a fun notion to try and find all the collectibles in my area -- like a scavenger hunt. You could send the "buddy" character like Laylee to get the hard-to-reach pieces on the roofs tops, precarious ledges, riverbeds.

Eh, to me the game's main attraction isn't that you're collecting things, it's how you're collecting things. Walking around a plain ol' town to "check in" and get a feather isn't the same as rolling, jumping, gliding, bouncing, etc. around a vast and enchanting world to collect stuff.

I feel Pokemon GO works because the base game is about the raising and battling of the creatures in the game. So less about the traversal and more about the creatures themselves.

Terrible idea. Pokemon Go was a fad and is a dying hype at best. The only fun that was had was yet again catching them all, for the n'th time. And battling very unfair battles that are ultimately only won by the people with most time on their hands or the most teammates availible.

How would collecting Yooka Laylee collectibles add amy fun in this already quickly becoming boring mechanic?

Collection-oriented ARGs can be really cool if they're done right, but I think it would have to be much MUCH different from what we know as a collectathon platformer. In fact, it wouldn't really be a platformer at all.

Maybe you could unlock short, randomly generated 2D levels every 20-or-so collectibles.

You mean start out okay but broken and gradually have more and more features abandoned? Pass.

Feels pointless, gimmicky, and very cash-grabby. I don't think Playtonic would do that kind of thing, and I doubt it'll be all that popular. Not to mention, I DON'T think they have the resources to pull off something like that.

I mean, I wouldn't mind seeing Yooka-Laylee becoming a big, popular IP, but I would like to see it be a fun adventure game first and foremost.
