If the Switch Version Comes Later...

Postby Lozjam » Wed Dec 28, 2016 12:16 am

So, obviously we don't know if the Switch version will come out later than the other consoles. Who knows, Playtonic might be good with this and Yooka Laylee will be on the Switch with all of the other consoles, so that Nintendo fans, their biggest supporters, won't be left out....

However, I think it's likely that the Switch version will come later.... Leaving their biggest fanbase in the dust. To me at least, it's not disappointing that the Wii U version was cancelled, more so that a Nintendo port of a game, is yet again delayed. So I think Playtonic really needs to make it up to their Nintendo fans if this is the case.

I think Playtonic really will need to give Nintendo fans a bone, and give Yooka Laylee some exclusive content(or a timed exclusive). Perhaps they could give the Switch version it's DLC before the other consoles.... Either way, they really need to make it up to Nintendo fans somehow. Those on XBO, PC, and PS4 will be enjoying their game, while Nintendo fans will either be spoiled, or have to shun talk about this game for perhaps months.

Playtonic PR(or at least Andy), has said that Playtonic has a true fondness and heritage with Nintendo.... If they are going to disappoint Nintendo fans, then they at least need to make it up to us. Otherwise, I really think this talk about heritage means absolutely nothing.

So what do you guys think? What do you think Playtonic could do to make up for a potential delayed Switch port?

You guys ever thought that maybe the game was delayed from Q1 to Q2 (11th of April), simply because of the Switch version? Maybe Playtonic actually wants to release on all systems on the same day after all, which is why it was delayed to Q2. Who da thunk it?!

Anyway, Playtonic compensating Nintendo fans with exclusive Switch content would be really unfair to every other Nintendo fan who already has another system to play Yooka Laylee and might not afford/want a Switch at this moment.
And what about backers who pledged for a non-Nintendo version? Would they get this exclusive content too?

Console exclusive content, timed or not, is a recipe for disaster and is utterly despised throughout the gaming community. Putting such a thing in the Switch version just to appease Nintendo fans in case of a delay happening is not fair to non-Nintendo players, and is really something a contemptuous Triple-A publisher can afford do.

Kickstarter backers are getting DLC for free after the game comes out. That should honestly be enough for compensation.

The way to make amends with the Nintendo population is to give them the game on time. Hell, for all this trouble, it should be the best version by far from a graphics and performance standpoint.

But exclusive content? Hellllll no. Never should there be exclusive content between versions. Thus people are buying an incomplete game, just like what happens when DLC comes out.

Not that it'll overall matter to me as I don't plan to get the Switch until 2018 anyway. And that moves Yooka Laylee into the "maybe..." category. We'll see how Playtonic ends up treating Nintendo fans. I anticipate they'll keep getting the short end of the stick, and then no stick at all, in a few years.
Woaaaah, it finally came out! :o

I agree that a later release on the Switch would be another let down for Nintendo gamers and IF this is the case,
THEN I agree that Nintendo backers should get/receive something to make up for that.

I said 'IF' because nothing is announced yet, but this wouldn't be a pretty list if you ask me:
- Wii U version cancelled;
- No Toybox for Nintendo gamers;
- Later Switch release.

Let's just wait for Playtonic's next announcement. :)

I think the switch version could well release with the rest. The delay could be a sign of this.

Also NO console exclusive content. Just no.

I'll be buzzing if the switch version coincides with the rest cause I'll be changing my pledge to a physical switch version asap.

I agree on the exclusives. Shame for Wii U backers but it will mean even less people are pleased with the game as a whole.

Eh, If they handle the port themselves, and design the game to take best advantage of the systems features, than thats enough for me.

Extra content? meh.
Make the game work well with the system? worth a bit of a wait.
Switch can do a lot it seems, just take advantage of some of those unique bits, and you have a better game.

Though, I'm really not too worried.
Switch is supposedly really easy to port to, and it supports unity so...
Even if it does come later, it shouldn't really be a wait.

Really, venting ones frustratations on an online forum may not be the worst idea.

However "Playtonic are incompetent and untrustworthy" seems a generalization based on very little information.

"Real but not true" is a useful distinction. To feel everything Playtonic
has gone sour -- a real feeling that you experience, but is this belief actually true?

What worries me atm; They hired 2 new guys and 1 of them seems to be a handheld specialist.
IF this has something to do with the Switch version (hence the handheld part), then they are really late to the 'porting party'!
Because if they only start porting it to the Switch NOW, then (I guess) they will never manage to launch the game simultaneously on the Switch.

--> This is an 'IF' scenario and not a fact!
