Poll for Switch Backers (Unofficial)

Postby grantarhero » Tue Mar 14, 2017 3:19 pm

Hey guys!

I posted a few days ago over on /r/YookaLaylee but I figured I'd ask over here as well (and maybe catch the attention of the devs).

Switch backers, what is more important to you - resolution or frame rate?

For reference, here is a lineup of Switch games and their frame rates / resolutions:

Zelda [900p/30]
Fast RMX [1080p/60] - (does some weird re-sampling between 900p and 1080p)
I am Setsuna [1080p/30]
Dragon Quest Heroes 2 [1080p/30]
Snake Pass [1080p/30]
Mario Kart [1080p/60] - (3-4 players drops to 1080p/30]
Arms [720p/60]
Splatoon 2 [720p/60]
Fire Emblem Warriors [1080p/30]
Xenoblade 2 [720p/30]
Super Mario Odyssey [720p/60]

So the only games pushing 1080p/60 are Mario Kart Deluxe and Fast RMX (sort of). While I would love to see Yooka-Laylee push 1080p/60 on the Switch, it seems very unlikely. Nintendo has stated that they opted for 720p on Splatoon to keep the frame rate at 60. Would love to hear your guys' thoughts!

There's been already, but for a short answer: Framerate all the way! I mean, maybe they'll magically achieve something like 900p and 60fps, but in any case, 60fps is the most important thing to me since it benefits gameplay greatly.

Isn't Breath of the Wild 900p on the TV? Can the Switch even handle 1080p?

Don't get me wrong, I looooooooooooove my Switch and I'm not resolution-whining. I just didn't know it could do 1080.

Hey that's fantastic. BOTW is a beautiful game on the Switch regardless, so it's cool to know it can push even better looking games. And admittedly the draw distance in the game is huge, so I'm not surprised they had to cut a corner somewhere to be able to fit so much scenery in.

And that's exactly why I'm so happy that it's coming to a more powerful (and portable!) Nintendo machine! And screw these these "not gonna buy at all if it doesn't come to Switch on April 11th" people. It will still perform very well, it's such a great fit nonetheless.

60fps at 720p on Switch? You are out of your mind.

You'll get 30fps with dips at 900p and like it.

Since we're discussing Switch performance: per nintendolife, Snake Pass runs at 30fps and "upscale 720p"

I'm sure the David Wise soundtrack sounds just as good as on the PS4 or Xbox One

Don't quote me, but I've heard Yooka-Laylee is running at 30fps on Xbox and Playstation and includes some frame skips and slowdown here and there. I think PC has higher FPS, but performance all depends on your hardware.
